designation, we rely on the generosity of individual donors, churches, businesses, foundations, and community organizations to sustain its vital mission of providing a supportive haven for women on their recovery journey. This collaborative spirit of giving underscores the collective effort to uplift and empower women in their pursuit of healing and renewal. The journey through our recovery program unfolds in three main stages, each designed to guide women towards holistic growth and sustainable reintegration into society. The path begins with Healing at the Life Exchange Center, continues through the phase of Preparing to Reenter the work- force at Homeward Bound, and culminates in Life In Recovery at Higher Ground, marking the tran- sition to independent living and sustained well-being. Our operational infrastructure encompasses three residential recovery homes, alongside a dedicated administrative building, all meticulously designed and staffed to facilitate women's recovery and successful transition into self-sufficiency.
At our center, women benefit from individualized assessments, comprehensive case management, and continuous programming and support services within a nurturing and secure environment.
In addition to addressing the core needs of food, clothing, and shelter, we emphasize spiritual enrichment to foster women's personal and emotional growth.

A Path to Redemption and Renewal
I n 2005, the seeds of transformation were planted as Gilgal took root, emerging as a sanctuary for homeless women grappling with the harrowing grip of drug and alcohol addiction. Val Cater, the visionary founder and executive director, heeded a divine call to shepherd these women towards a life free from destructive cycles, guiding them on a journey towards victorious living through the power of Jesus Christ. Together with her husband, they acquired property in south Atlanta, breathing new life into once-abandoned buildings that stood witness to drug activity and despair, transforming them into havens of healing and renewal—a testament to unwavering hope and redemption. At the heart of our ministry lies the profound mission of restoring homeless women burdened with addiction, offering them an opportunity to shed their old selves and embrace a new identity rooted in faith and spiritual rebirth. Drawing inspiration from Joshua 5:9, Val found resonance in the di- vine act of rolling away reproach, marking a symbolic place where burdens are lifted and lives are forever changed through the grace of Christ. The biblical narrative of Joshua leading the Israelites across the Jordan River into Canaan echoes within our treatment centers very essence, reflecting a parallel between the challenges faced by these women and the promise of God's unwavering hope and redemption. Val Cater draws poignant parallels between the journeys of the women under our care and the trib- ulations faced by the Israelites in the wilderness. Much like the Israelites who wandered in disbelief for forty years, succumbing to doubt and fear, these women too found themselves ensnared in the wilderness of addiction and despair, seeking solace in destructive lifestyles. But just as Joshua was called to lead his people to the Promised Land, so too do these women find solace and guidance at Gilgal—a place of hope and transformation. The story of Gilgal mirrors the biblical tenets of faith,

resilience, and redemption, offering a sanctuary for women seeking liberation from the shackles of their past and embracing a journey of spiritual renewal and restoration.
The symbolism of the twelve stones in Gilgal's logo—a homage to the memorial stones retrieved from the river—serves as a tangible reminder of God's redemptive power and enduring grace. Just as the Israelites renewed their covenant with God through circumcision, shedding the reproach of their Egyptian captivity, the women at Gilgal are invited to undergo a similar journey of inner transfor- mation and spiritual cleansing, facilitated by the profound sacrifice of the Cross. Through the hope, faith, and power embodied in Gilgal's story, these women are offered a path to redemption, self-dis- covery, and lasting renewal—a journey towards embracing a new identity free from the shadows of their past afflictions and anchored in the eternal promise of God's grace.

S ince its inception, Women of Gilgal has been dedicated to empowering women by help- ing them secure meaningful employment that not only provides livable wages but also aligns with their God-given talents and passions, enhancing their long-term earning potential. Collaborating closely with dedicated staff and volunteers, we offer a comprehensive suite of services, including weekly job readiness classes, personalized case management, and continu- ous assessments and coaching, aimed at iden- tifying and addressing individual barriers to employment and sustainable success. The journey towards empowerment begins with a focus on education, where we conduct individual needs assessments to establish tai- lored strategies for each resident. By delving into client intake processes, evaluating barri- ers to employment across various categories, assessing skills, education levels, and training needs, setting clear career goals, and formulat- ing robust case management plans, we lay the groundwork for a personalized and impactful approach to workforce development. This ini- tial stage serves as a pivotal foundation, ensur- ing that each woman's unique requirements and aspirations are considered in crafting a pathway towards professional growth and ful- fillment. Moving beyond education, we place a strong emphasis on equipping residents with vital
professional and interpersonal skills essential for thriving in the workforce. Through weekly job readiness classes and life skills development sessions, women engage in activities designed to enhance their resume-building capabilities, refine job search strategies, master effective in- terviewing techniques, cultivate a professional presence through Dress for Success initiatives, receive individualized job coaching, pursue ed- ucational enhancements and specialized train- ing, participate in career fairs facilitated both on-site and through community partnerships, and cultivate proficiency in business etiquette, effective communication, and social media pro- tocols. This comprehensive equipping process ensures that women at our treatment center are not only prepared but empowered to navigate the complexities of the job market and embark on successful career journeys. Central to the Workforce Development pro- gram at our center is the concept of empower- ment, which extends beyond skill-building to encompass career training, employer network- ing opportunities, and ongoing vocational sup- port services. By forging strong partnerships with employers, establishing connections with educational institutions, and providing unwav- ering support to clients seeking career advance- ment, we pave the way for women to realize their full potential in the professional sphere.
