LIBRARY INFO LIBRARY CLOSINGS Memorial Day :
Libraries Transform and Enrich I believe in the power of our libraries to transform lives and enrich our communities. Whether you’re seeking a quiet space to dive into a good book, or a database to explore new opportunities, you’ll find it in the walls of a library. But our libraries are more than just a repository of books and information, they are essential pillars of our communities. They help bridge the digital divide by connecting eligible residents to free Chromebooks. They help keep our communities safe by providing gun locks at no cost and they provide opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to learn, grow and thrive.

In Anne Arundel County, we recognize the growing role that our libraries play in our communities – even as we face increasing costs for labor, goods and services. Our responsible budgeting practices and willingness to invest in the people and institutions that support our quality of life helped us achieve triple-A bond ratings from all three credit ratings agencies for the first time in our history – and helped us maintain those ratings this year. This year’s budget reflects our continued commitment to our libraries by funding a market-rate salary adjustment for library staff, supporting the space and staff expansion of Discoveries: The Library at the Mall and fully funding the new Glen Burnie Library capital project. I hope you will take advantage of the many opportunities our libraries offer and explore the endless possibilities, one page at a time.
