Building a Legacy: Reflecting on Dane Buy Local's Journey Through Time

I n 2004, the seeds of Dane Buy Local were sown un- der the moniker of the Dane County Buy Local Initiative, emerging as a program of Wisconsin Partners for Sus- tainability. This humble beginning laid the groundwork for what would evolve into a vibrant and influential or- ganization dedicated to championing local businesses in Madison, WI. As the years unfolded, Dane Buy Local underwent significant transformations that propelled it from a volunteer-run initiative to a professional entity. In 2008, a milestone was reached as Lark Gibson became the first staff member, ushering in a new era of operational efficiency and expanded out- reach. By 2010, the organization made a pivotal move from shared office space to securing its

own offices at 6300 Enterprise Lane, marking a physical manifestation of growth and in- dependence. The year 2009 marked a critical junc- ture when the Board decided to tran- sition Dane Buy Local into a stand- alone non-profit, severing ties with
