INVESTING IN THE SAFETY OF OUR COMMUNITY Tittle & Perlmuter Ohio First Responders Scholarship

When you’re in a car crash or a similar accident, often the first person you see in the chaos is a first responder. Firefighters, police officers, and EMS are the people who run towards the danger and keep the public safe. These brave men and women risk their lives to protect others and play an integral role in court cases by providing first-hand accounts of what occurred on scene. At Tittle & Perlmuter, we know just how crucial our first responders are and consider them unsung heroes of personal injury law. This May, we are celebrating National EMS Week and Firefighters Day by recognizing their life- saving efforts and their role in our firm’s work.

fail to gather evidence at that time. Safety officers can make or break a case, and a thorough police investigation of a crash is beneficial in helping injured folks get back to their lives. As part of our continued efforts to give back to the community and our desire to highlight the importance of emergency responders in our work, we are excited to unveil our first scholarship specifically focused on getting more passionate people into emergency response careers. The First Responders Scholarship is available to all Ohio high school, college, community, and graduate students pursuing a career in emergency response as a firefighter, police officer, state highway patrol officer, EMS, or EMS paramedic. Those interested in this field need to complete various programs, training, and certifications, so we want to help by providing multiple awards of $250. Applicants need to submit their full name, mailing address, phone number, email address, career path of choice, the name of the school of program they will attend or complete, and a 500-word essay on the topic of “Why is safety important to you?” to info@tittlelawfirm.com . The deadline to apply is Saturday, August 31, 2024. Once we receive all the submissions, we will determine the winners and contact them. As we reflect on the indispensable role of our first responders, Tittle & Perlmuter is honored to give back to these heroes during National EMS Week and Firefighters Day. Their unwavering commitment to public safety saves lives and serves as a cornerstone in our pursuit of justice for those impacted by personal injury incidents. With our inaugural First Responders Scholarship, we aim to support individuals dedicated to entering emergency response careers so that the torch of selflessness and service continues to burn brightly in the community.

While it’s clear how emergency responders provide aid during accidents or other dangerous situations, not everyone knows just how essential they can be in the litigation phase. Firefighters or police officers are the first ones on the scene, and often, from a case perspective, they can tie in or explain what a client was dealing with during and just after the accident. I have seen first responders speak to details like how much blood there was or that a client was screaming in pain on-site. All these specifics help us build a stronger case for victims.

We invite all eligible applicants to seize this opportunity. For more information, visit tittlelawfirm.com/in-the- community/first-responders-scholarship .

REV UP YOUR SAFETY KNOWLEDGE Master Ohio’s Motorcycle Laws for a Safe Journey

As the summer starts to heat up, so will the engines of dozens of motorcycles revving up to hit the open roads. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and whether you’re a seasoned rider or a newbie, it’s crucial to understand that it takes more than wearing a helmet to stay safe. Motorcyclists don’t have the same physical protection as drivers, so the damage can be devastating if an accident occurs. Let’s cruise through the ins and outs of Ohio’s motorcycle laws and how to stay safe on the road. RULES OF THE ROAD In Ohio, motorcycles are treated like full-size automobiles under the road laws. Riders have the same responsibilities and rules to adhere to as someone who is driving a car. So, motorcyclists have the right to control an entire lane, even on busy highways. Just like you need a driver’s license and insurance to operate a vehicle, you need a motorcycle license or an endorsement from any of the 50 states and insurance to ride your motorcycle.

LANE SPLITTING Lane splitting, or when motorcycles ride in the middle lane between stalled or slow traffic, is prohibited in Ohio. This practice is considered dangerous as it places motorcycles closer to other vehicles, making them more vulnerable on either side and giving them less space to maneuver. It’s important to note that lane splitting is allowed in some other states, so riders from outside Ohio need to know the specific rules for where they are riding. Lane

sharing, on the other hand, is allowed in Ohio. This is when two motorcycle riders cruise side by side in the same lane. SAFETY REGULATIONS Along with traffic laws, your bike has to meet several safety regulations to be legal on the road. For example, motorcycles must have a proper seat for the driver and any passengers. They must also have properly functioning lights, mirrors, turn signals, and handlebars. Riders must have some kind of eye protection. Though it is not a legal requirement for most riders to wear a helmet, those under 18 or in their first year of holding a motorcycle license must. It’s wise for everyone to wear a helmet, as they provide essential protection. When the open road calls you to cruise, remember that knowledge and extra vigilance are your best defense against severe injuries on your bike. GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR OUR CLIENTS

The Tittle & Perlmuter Difference in Client Care

When we say we’ll be with you every step of the way during your case, we mean it! At Tittle & Perlmuter, we believe in providing comfort and care to our clients that extends past the courtroom or office. Finding ways to go above and beyond for people dealing with the strain of an accident is part of what we call “the Tittle & Perlmuter difference.” By partnering with local community organizations, we can provide needed items to clients and continue cultivating a compassion-based culture.

This organization helps people often overlooked based on their challenges by providing helpful resources, vital emergency services, and immediate needs. It was an honor to partner with this mission-based group to provide comfort and dignity to our clients facing major life stressors.

Here are recent, shining examples of our staff’s commitment to helping clients through challenging times.

HOMELESS HOOKUP CLE Last month, we worked with Dean and Laura from the nonprofit Homeless Hookup CLE to deliver essential items to one of our clients. They needed items for their home, like pillows, blankets, sheets, lamps, dishes, and more. Homeless Hookup does incredible things in Northeast Ohio for the unhoused population and impoverished communities.

WOMANKIND MATERNAL AND PRENATAL CENTER We also worked with the Womankind Maternal & Prenatal Center in March to acquire a new car seat and baby items for one of our clients who is expecting. This organization has been in the area for 50 years, providing non-judgmental care to women on their pregnancy journeys. They offer free prenatal care, personal support, and various social services. Our Wellness Advisor, Laura, was instrumental in this act of kindness for our client and said supporting her during this exciting and busy time was a privilege.
