The Smart Farming Way to Food Security

10 November 2021 Penang and Kedah | Online

Incorporation of information and communication technologies into machinery, equipment and sensors in agricultural production systems promises to substantially improve yield and quality. In addition, advances in animal sciences including animal reproduction, genetics and breeding, animal nutrition and production and animal health results in greater industry productivity. MIGHT paid a visit to two illustrious entrepreneurs in the area of smart farming. Kairos Agricuture is Malaysia’s first Vanilla Smart Farm located in Penanti, Bukit Mertajam. The farm utilises Smart Farming principles in all aspects of operations from temperature control to automatic sprinkling systems and nutrition sensors to produce premier vanilla pods. These have a value of RM1.5 million per harvest. Muhamad Hayatullah Ibrahim of Tenang Agro Farm in Kuala Nerang, Kedah uses the abundance of resources and raw materials available in the surrounding area including agricultural and industrial by-products to produce bio-based feed at his cattle farm.
