TOWARDS A NEW INDUSTRIAL STRATEGY: Insights into Malaysia Industrial Related Policies Current global and domestic challenges confronting Malaysia’s industrial sector, have made us aware that our past industrial approaches which were highly dependent on large-scale injection of foreign capital to boost labour productivity are no longer viable. The emergence of the Fourth Industrial Revolutions characterised by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres that has been occurring since the middle of the last century, have further provided new challenges. MIGHT conducted a comprehensive analysis on all ongoing policies related to industry development in Malaysia, scanning through 26 industries encompassing a total of 105 sub-industries as defined by MITI according to the Malaysia Standard Industrial Classification (MSIC) code. This report shared insights on: Policy statements, aspirations and previous strategies related to manufacturing, services, trade, investment, technology, productivity, standards and talent in each industry; and The Outcome This analysis is expected to benefit policy makers at the national or organisational level, as it provides the foundation for future development of industrial strategies. Development plans employed by other countries in each area of interest for possible future consideration in the future development of industrial strategies.
