Smart Grid Demo Project - Site Works January - December 2021 | Melaka
MIGHT continues to provide support through strategic facilitations in the area of biomass with Energy, Maritime and Oil & Gas (EMOG) Strategy Group, Universiti Malaya, UNITEN, TNB Energy Services and Kulim Berhad. The role of multiple Renewable Energy is significant whereby Malaysia aims to achieve 31% compliance by 2025 and 40% by 2035, from the 20% by 2025 target set in 2019/20 with the absence of new coal power plants. This is in line with Malaysia’s aspiration in achieving net carbon neutral by 2040. As such, alternatives to coal & gas are crucial especially in addressing current coal deficit issues and the transition towards the phasing out of coal. Biomass has enormous potential in the area of Renewable Energy and is a promising candidate in the New Energy Policy currently being formulated. A preliminary stakeholder's engagement was conducted as an introduction and two-way communication among the palm oil millers. The session received active participation and positive feedback from the participants on the topic of biomass hub discussion. In 2021 the Smart Grid Demo Porject had successfully integrated several sites in Melaka and achieved the target for Phase 1 of SGDP. The project is now in Phase 2 hence the number of integrated sites will be increased in the future. Each successfully integrated site will be provided with an online account for users to access and monitor their energy usage data in real-time. Towards the end of 2021, MIGHT and TNBR conducted a series of online reporting platform briefing sessions and user account access handover. Ultimately, this e ort would help Melaka quantify their GHG when all sites that consist of solar farms, universities, factories and large buildings from di erent locations in Melaka are integrated onto one platform.
