For its cooling needs, MIGHT currently utlises the District Cooling System (DCS) technology, where cooling capacity in the form of chilled water from a central source is distributed to MIGHT and other nearby buildings through a network of underground pipes for use in space and process cooling. The chilled water was cooled at the central source using national grid at o -peak hours and distributed to buildings during the o ce hours. The central source supplies 105,510 kWh of cooling capacity to MIGHT every month. This study examines the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cooling source for industrial and commercial buildings. The cooling system known as COLDGROWTM is locally-developed and owned by Wasave Sdn. Bhd. The study indicated that MIGHT is potentially able to reduce carbon emission from 721,688.40 kg CO2 per year to 62,340.21 kg CO2 , to 91which amounts to a 4% reduction. This reduces the monthly consumption by between 40-75%, depending on the business model. This study is in the final part of review and may be implemented at MIGHT as a Proof-of-Concept (POC) in 2022 for replication at Government and industries’ premises. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SIRIM Berhad and MIGHT in accelerating Sustainable, Green, and Smart Cities agenda was held virtually aimed at driving the nation’s sustainable, green, and smart cities agenda and position Malaysia as a globally competitive and societal-centric powerhouse by 2030. SIRIM Berhad and MIGHT plan to explore strategic areas for Malaysia such as smart manufacturing, green energy, biodegradable product, and many more. The MoU was signed between President & Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, and the President & Chief Executive O cer of MIGHT, Datuk Dr. Mohd Yuso Sulaiman and witnessed by Tan Sri Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, Chairman of both SIRIM Berhad and MIGHT.
