MARCH 4, 1945 POWER THROUGH PR IVATE • PRAYER P salm 32:1-7; M atthew 6:5, 6 By Mary Ellen Lehman Prayer is a vital part of our life in Christ. As the Word of.God is the food of the Christian life, prayer is its breath. As plenty of fresh air is a necessity for physical well-being, so prayer is indispensable for a Christian who would be strong and healthy in the Lord. A name which has been associated with prevailing prayer more than per haps any other within the past cen tury is that of George Mueller of Bristol, England. He wa.s a poor man in this world’s riches, yet wealthy in the knowledge of the Lord God who hears and answers the prayers of the godly (Psa. 4:3). Because of his trust in God, he dared ask great things of God. In answer to believing prayer, the Lord guided Mr. Mueller in the supply* of the financial needs of hun dreds of missionaries throughout the world before the day of organized mis sion boards. In a time of particular need in the English schools, this man was used in the task of getting the Bible and Christian teachers into them. Especially was the guidance of the Lord seen in Mr. Mueller’s building and maintaining an orphans’ home for more than three thousand home less children. Through prayer, funds were supplied in time to meet every need of the orphanage. In all of For Those Who Have Topics I. PREREQUISITES OF POWER.
