1. To Build for Permanency “As long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper” (2 Chron. 26:5). Are our hands clean? Are our souls free from blame For this world tragedy? Nay. For like all the rest, We had relaxed our hold on higher things, And satisfied ourselves with smaller— Ease, pleasure, greed of gold. We had slipped back along the grop ing way; No longer holding first things first, But throning idols of our own fashion ing; Heads of sham gold, and feet of crum bling clay. If we would build anew, and build to stay, W6 must find God again, and go His way!—John Oxenham. Quiet Strength “Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace” (Job 22:21). Strive to see God in all things with out exception, and acquiesce in His will with absolute submission. Do everything for God, uniting yourself to Him by a mere upward glance, or by the overflowing of your heart to ward Him. Whatever happens, abide steadfast in a determination to cling simply to God, trusting in His eternal love for you; and if you find that you have wandered forth from His shelter, recall your heart quietly and simply. Maintain a holy simplicity. —A 16th Century Saint. 3. Humility, the Christian's Grace “ For thou hast said in thine heart I w ill ascend into heaven, I will ex alt my throne above the stars to God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; . . . I w ill be like the Most High” (Isa. 14:13, 14). Pride . . . is the root of every sin and evil. Jesus came to bring humility back to earth, to make us partakers of it . . . The life of the saved ones must bear this stamp of deliverance, their whole relation to God and man marked by an all-pervading humility. Without this there can be no true abiding in God’s presence, or experi ence of His favor and the power of His Spirit; no abiding faith, or love, or joy, or strength. Humility is the only soil In which the graces root; the lack 2.

of humility is the sufficient explana tion of every defeat and failure. —Andrew Murray. 4. Prayer's Fundamental "Whatsoever ye shall ask . . . be lieving, ye shall receive” (Matt. 21:22).. God’s gifts are for those who seek them. The Holy Spirit does the initial work of quickening the sluggish soul to seek God’s favor, but the inan who enjoys most of that favor is the man who is constantly craving, constantly asking. It might be said that the dif ference between the spiritually rich and the spiritually poor is found in the fact that the former have learned to ask more. “Knock and it shall' be opened unto you”—the barriers that block your way shall disappear before the persistence of faith. Asking i£ fundamental.—Selected. The Christian Way “ Forgiving one another . . . as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Eph. 4:32). We are in a world of criticism and misunderstandings. It takes a mag; nanimous man to be able to say, “ I am too busy minding God., and win ning souls to remember an insult. I study to forget everything that reflects unfavorably upon another; I study to remember everything that tends to his advantage.” What a happy world this would be if we could measure up to this!—Gospel Banner. Our Counseling Partner “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly” (Psa. 1:1). We find here presented a down- grade of evil. The beginnings of sin are found in taking counsel with the “ ungodly,” in the association with those who do not have God in their lives. It is good, sound Christianity to guard against securing counsel and advice upon questions of life and con duct from those who do not take God into consideration. The man who is happy walks in the counsel of the godly, and secures his advice from those who are directed by the Holy Spirit of God.—Milo F. Jamison. 7. God-touched Sinews “He touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank” (Gen. 32:32). « Whatever it is that enables a soul; whom God designs to bless, to stand out against Him, God will touch.
