may be the pride of wealth, or of in fluence, or of affection; but it wUl not be spared—God will touch it. ItSnay be something as natural as a sinew; but if it robs a man of spiritual bless ing God will touch i t . . . And beneath that touch it w ill shrink and shrivel, and you will limp to the end of life. Remember that the sinew never shrinks save beneath the touch of ten der love.—F. B. Meyer. Faith's Foundation “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace . . . because he trusteth in thee” (Isa. 26:3). Ignorance of the promises, of Christ’s official relations, and of what we may expect of Him, may prevent the soul’s rest. Suppose the soul to be ignorant of the declarations: “All things work together for good to them that love God” ; “My grace is sufficient for thee” ; “As thy days, so shall thy strength be.” Then certain trials may throw the soul into a state of unrest and anxiety. Ignorance or a w a n t o f thoughtfulness may break up the rest of a true believer, until he is informed or remembers what he has in the fu ll ness of his blessed Saviour. With an intelligent faith rest is inevitable. —Charles G. Finney. Fruit-Bearing Branches “I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in himK the same bringeth forth much fruit- (John 15:5). It is so gracious of our God to make us branches of the True Vine, the very organs by which its fruit is produced. The fruit of the Vine is the glad, free, spontaneous outcome of the life with in; and it forms and grows and ripens in its proper season. The Scripture does not speak of thp fruits of the Spirit as though we might take our choice of the graces named, but of the fruit, which is a rich cluster composed of love, joy, peace, long-suffering, etc. How blessed to bring forth such fruit in its season!—J. Hudson Taylor. Divine Light for Guidance “Thine ears shall hear a word . . . saying, This is the way, walk ye in it” (Isa. 30:21). A tender child of summers three, Seeking her little bed at night, Paused on the dark stair timidly. “Oh Mother! Take my hand,” said she, “And then the dark will all be light.” We older children grope our way From dark behind to dark before; And only when our hands we lay, Dear Lord, in Thine, the night is day, And there is darkness nevermore. Reach downward to the sunless days Wherein our guides are blind as we, 8. 9. 10.

And faith is small and hope delays; j Take Thou the hands of prayer we raise, .And let us feel the light of Thee! —John Greenleaf Whittier. Filled to Fulfill “Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). Every Christian is called for some work. It is not the same with every person. God calls some as p a s t o r s , some as evangelists, some as mission aries, some as elders, deacons, teach ers, singers, superintendents, personal workers. He calls some especially to pray. He blesses some financially and calls them to be givers. God has a work for every Christian. Some may need only a short training, and some may need long training, but most folks need to tarry until they are filled before they go out to fulfill. —Cumberland Presbyterian.
