Memorising Scripture Pays Dividends By Tom Olson On our first visit to Long Beach,' California, my brother and I were walking along the surf when a crowd on the pier attracted his attention. Curiosity seized him and he said: “Let’s go and see what’s doing.” When we reached the pier we dis covered that the group corresponded to the proverbial gathering of sages

His Child “He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it” (John 13:26), Whoever has been present at a wedding feast in certain parts of Mex ico has seen a beautiful interpreta tion of this verse. There are so many grown-ups crowded around the table that there is not room enough for the children. But they are .not forgotten. One by one, each slips up behind his mother. She sees him, takes a choice morsel of food, dips it into the com mon dish, and hands it back to the child behind her. Then it is little sis ter’s turn, or perhaps another broth er’s. Again and again the procedure is repeated, until by the time the mother is satisfied her children are too. The Lord Jesus, when He spoke of one “ to whom I shall give a s o p | when I have dipped it” was reveal ing the Father’s tenderness toward His child.—Eunice Victoria Pike. Sit Still and Trust f!ps■ “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him” (Psa.-37:5). It is recorded that Stonewall Jack- son was once, with his sister-in-law, crossing the torrent just below Niag ara Falls. The current so swirled the boat that the lad y became terrified. Jackson seized her by the arms and turning to one of the two boatmen, said: “How /often have you crossed here?” “Many times, sir.” “Did you ever meet with an acci dent?" “ Never, sir,” “Never capsized? Never lost a life?” “Nothing of the kind, sir!”

Turning to the lady, Jackson said: “You hear what the boatman says, and unless you think you-can take to the oars and row better than he does, sit still and trust him, as I do.” —A London Journalist. Wrong Places for Christians 1. Under the juniper tree of discour agement (1 Ki. 19:4). 2. On the housetop of self-ease (2 Sam. 11 : 1 , 2 ) . 3. In the doubting castle of unbelief (John 20:24, 25). 4. In the sieve of self-confidence (Lk. 22:31-34). 5. In the camp of the enemy (1 Sam. 29:3). 6. In the ship of disobedience (Jonah 1:1-3).—Fred H. Wight, Biola *20.
