SKILLBUILD NI FINALS TEST THE ABILITIES OF OUR BEST RECRUITS AND APPRENTICES… Impressive local talent on display at SkillBuild NI Finals

T he Construction Industry Training Board NI (CITB NI) annual SkillBuild NI Finals 2022 competition took place at its Nutt’s Corner Training Centre on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Supported by the Department for the Economy and local construction companies, the competition provides an opportunity to showcase the high level of skills and the impressive talent within the workforce, as well as raising the status and standards of professional and technical education and training. Seventy-nine of the brightest recruits and top performers within construction apprenticeship programmes from across Northern Ireland competed against each other to win in categories ranging from brickwork to wall and

floor tiling. The SkillBuild NI competition is designed to test skills, technique, ability within tight timeframes, and identifies the top performers in 10 different trade areas. Winners from the NI finals to be announced in July 2022, will have the opportunity to represent Northern Ireland in the SkillBuild UK National Finals leading potentially to represent Team UK at WorldSkills in 2024. The biannual WorldSkills event is the largest and most prestigious vocational competition in the world. SkillBuild NI competitors regularly out perform all other regions of the UK at both SkillBuild UK and WorldSkills competitions. NI Builder will be showcasing the winners of the 2022 competition in the August/September issue of the magazine.

Commenting on the popular industry contest, Barry Neilson, Chief Executive for CITB NI said, “Our young people are more ambitious now than ever and we hope that SkillBuild NI National Finals will be part of their journey and future careers within the construction industry.” CITB NI CITB NI works in partnership with the construction industry, improving its performance and productivity through improving the skills of those employed or intending to be employed in the industry. The organisation is working towards a future construction industry where skills and competence are at the core of every business, supported by a respected and valued CITB NI.
