WOODVALE WIN GOLD AND SILVER CONSTRUCTION MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Woodvale Construction Company Ltd’s Managing Director Robert Ewing FCIOB was awarded the Gold Winner in the Community category for his delivery of the Schools’ Bundle 5 scheme at the CIOB’s Construction Manager of the Year (CMYA) 2022 awards. Contracts Manager Paul Devine MCIOB was awarded the Construction Manager of the Year Silver Medal Winner in the Community category for his delivery of the Restoration of St. Mary’s Church, Lavey. KEY PEOPLE CHANGES AT GLEEDS

Geoff Warke FRICS, who founded Gleeds’ Belfast office in 2017, retired on May 20. Regional Director for Gleeds, Scott Ewing, said, “Geoff has done a terrific job in establishing the business in Ireland from scratch and he will be leaving an impressive legacy for others to inherit and build upon. We all wish Geoff well in his retirement.” Ivan Toombs MRICS has joined Gleeds as Associate Director of Cost Management. TAKE BACK THE CITY DESIGN CONTEST

Take Back the City Coalition has launched an international competition with a £10k prize for architects, planners and urban design consultants to submit a design to transform Belfast’s largest publicly owned site. With the potential for 950 gentle density homes in the area of highest social housing need in Belfast, entrants are being encouraged to submit design concepts to help transform the 25 acre vacant site formerly occupied by Mackies, once one of West Belfast’s

largest employers. Plans will be judged by a panel of local and international experts. Marissa McMahon of the Take Back the City Coalition said, “Take Back the City is led by families in housing need …We want to build a sustainable city, without walls, where every child has a home.” The closing date for all submissions will be September 30 2022 with winners announced in October 2022.
