The Headteacher of the school will put in place the plans to achieve the vision and lead the thinking for the development of the facility from the outset in addition to hiring the new staff team and working in partnership with senior leaders across the SENAD Group. About Our School
Organisational Context Edgewood School is a new, state of the art independent specialist day and residential school for children and young people aged 7 to 18. Pupils placed at the school have a range of complexity and need, including; Autism, moderate to severe learning difficulties, speech, language and communication difficulties, and associated challenging behaviour. All classes will be small with a high staff to pupil ratio and will offer a broad curriculum designed to meet the very individual needs of each pupil. This will be supported by a range of therapeutic programmes. The school is operated by the SENAD Group who have 6 special needs schools based in the East and West Midlands and Wales. Edgewood School will be the Groups 7th school. All our schools are graded Outstanding or Good by Ofsted and Estyn. The SENAD Group is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year. Location Based in Northampton close to the A45 in Lingswood Park, the school is easily reached from the M1 and other major road and rail routes. There are also good public transport links including a major train station nearby.

The Role As a new school we are looking for a successful, experienced leader who has previously worked in special education at Deputy Head or Headteacher level. The prospective Headteacher will understand that the leadership and management of the school will encompass a range of processes which contribute to outstanding pupil outcomes. They must also work in partnership with the Head of Care (Registered Manager) for the children’s home.
No two days will be the same but the main responsibilities will always include:
Meeting pupils’ specials needs and personal development Promoting positive outcomes Keeping children and staff safe Staff development, motivation and resilience Working with finance teams to manage the school roll and budget Meeting education and care regulatory requirements Working collaboratively with parents, carers and local authorities. Site & Buildings The layout of the school classrooms, residential homes and grounds have been designed by highly experienced SEND Education and Care Management teams, to specifically meet the needs of all children and young people. The school can accommodate 12 residential placements alongside 14-day placements. Class sizes are small, with children and young people following an individualised curriculum and therapy programme, in line with their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
JOB DESCRIPTION
11. Provide a safe environment for all staff, pupils, visitors and contractors, ensuring that all requirements are met regarding health and safety, environmental health and fire regulations.

12. Maintain, evaluate and ensure good professional standards and values of staff.
13. Manage an effective management team within the school with clearly defined areas of delegation of authority and accountability.
14. Provide on call cover and call out assistance as required.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
15. Effective communication with the Director of Education, other Board members and members of the Head Office team, completing a regular monthly report.
- To follow the Headteacher Standards set by the DfE and lead the school and allied children’s home to deliver outstanding outcomes for children, young people and their families - Produce an annual budget in agreement with the Company Board and to manage the financial performance of the school in order to meet agreed targets - Research, develop, innovate and promote an outstanding provision of Care, Education and Therapy at the School – to meet the needs of all pupils - Appropriate assessment and recruitment of pupils/residents to the School’s services - To meet all legislative requirements involved in the management of a school and children’s home and to produce a school development plan that meets the standards required by OFSTED - To ensure the achievement of excellent educational standards for those with SEND - To provide professional leadership to all staff - To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and recruit a senior level Designated Safeguarding Lead - To be on call to support the residential children as part of the school’s SLMT.
16. To be responsible for the maintenance, security and effective management of school and residential buildings and their contents. Ensure that maintenance needs are promptly reported and actioned.
17. Ensure that all staff are aware of and promote equality, respect diversity and challenge stereotypes to promote the rights of children and young people.
18. Develop links with the local community and key partners of the school.
19. Provide effective organisation of the whole school and seek ways of improving organisational structures and functions based on rigorous self evaluation.
20. Engage in and ensure systematic and rigorous self evaluation of the work of the school and ensure that effective self evaluation informs school improvement priorities.
KEY TASKS
21. Ensure that all school policies and procedures are adhered to and evidence that they are reflected in the practice within the school.

2. To promote and maintain positive relationships with all Local Education Authorities, other placing authorities, pupil families and all agencies that have a relationship with the school.
22. As with all SENAD staff, take joint responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, adhering to all safeguarding policies and safe recruitment practices.
3. To take the lead on the pupil assessment process, carrying out assessments and disseminating information downwards as appropriate.

24. Undertake any other duties as might reasonably be expected of a Head Teacher.
4. Produce a rolling 3 year school development and business plan to continually enhance the provision offered and to define the future strategy of the school.
