RAMPING UP FOR A STELLAR 2019

I know we say it a lot, but it’s true! We had another great year at the Hare Truck Center, and we have you to thank! Our customers led the charge to a tremendous year. This includes both our fleet customers and commercial customers. We’re excited to jump into the new year and continue the trend. Of course, one of the reasons the Truck Center had a great year was that so many of our customers had a great year of their own. It’s great to see so many businesses right here at home doing so well! As we’ve shared in the past, 2018 wasn’t our only landmark year. Ever since we opened up the Truck Center four years ago, people have really responded. It turns out that a one- stop truck center was just what Indiana was looking for. There’s something to say about having fleet and commercial sales and service in one convenient location — along with an amazing team who does it all. I’m looking forward to another great year of sales, service, and plenty of hard work. There are so many great vehicles hitting the lot this year, I don’t know where to begin. You can be sure we’ll be sending out updates throughout the year on all the great Chevy and Isuzu trucks coming soon.

On the personal side of things, I’m really looking forward to spending more time with my family. It’s important to have that quality time together. My daughter graduated from Trine University up in Angola this past year. She’s back home and in the workforce. She actually works at the Hare Chevrolet location. It’s great to have her back and as part of the Hare team! My son, Johnathon, has also worked at the Hare Truck Center for over 10 years now. I’m incredibly proud to have such a valuable asset to the team. Speaking of the Hare team, I think it’s safe to say everyone is looking forward to 2019. We’re bringing a lot of good energy from the past year with us, but that doesn’t mean we can kick back and relax.

You can be sure, thanks to all our new and returning customers, that our team will be growing over the next year. We want to make sure we have you covered. We’ll be honing our craft and delivering the service you’ve come to expect better than ever before. You might call those our New Year’s resolutions. And, as always, if you’ve set resolutions for yourself or your business and the Truck Center can help, don’t hesitate to give us a call or stop by. We are already ramping up for a busy spring, so the earlier you can get in, whether for sales or service, the better. We want to make sure you are ready for the coming months. That about does it for me this month. From all of us at the Hare Truck Center, happy New Year to you and yours. Let’s make it a great one! -John Pence Service Manag r

New Year’s Menagerie

LEGEND OF THE CHINESE ZODIAC

You have probably heard of the Chinese zodiac and the 12 animals that represent each year: the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. Maybe you already know which animal claims your birth year, and you’re ahead of the game if you know that we’ll be celebrating the Year of the Pig in 2019. But do you know how these specific animals earned such a high honor? According to legend, when the celestial Jade Emperor created a way to measure time, he invited the animals in his kingdom to earn a spot on the zodiac by winning a race. Cat and Rat, who were best friends back then, were both eager to participate. Wanting to be well-rested, Cat took a nap before the race. But when the time for the race came, Rat, who was determined to win, sneaked away without waking his friend.

the order they appear in the zodiac, each taking a place influenced by their unique traits.

Now, you might be wondering how Dragon came in fifth place. Unlike their monstrous brothers in Western mythology, Chinese dragons are wise, helpful creatures. During the race, Dragon saw a village suffering from a terrible drought, so he stopped to help make rain so the farmers’crops could grow. Even with the delay, he still finished well before most of the other animals. And what about poor Cat? When he woke up to discover he’d missed the race and would be left out of the zodiac, he was enraged. He declared vengeance on Rat, and to this day, cats still hold their grudge against rats.

Was there really a celestial race that named each year in the Chinese calendar? Probably not. After all, cats hadn’t been introduced in China when the zodiac calendar was first put into use! But it’s an exciting story and one that’s always fun to tell on the Chinese New Year.

Rat’s cunning didn’t stop there. When the race reached a raging river, Rat secretly climbed on the back of Ox, who was in the lead. When they reached the other side, Rat jumped off, crossing the finish line before Ox and claiming the first year of the zodiac for his own. The other animals finished the race in

Service is defined as“an act of helpful activity; help; aid.” Years ago, when you pulled into a service station, an attendant would come out to your vehicle and ask howmuch fuel you needed. While the pump was running, the attendant would check your oil, coolant, battery, washer fluid, and tire pressure. Well, we know that no longer happens, but as your local Isuzu dealer, we are here to deliver you service. We have purchased state-of-the-art equipment and training for our technicians to maintain your truck, or as we view it, your investment. Electronics, emissions, and advanced circuitry means that the days of opening the hood—or in our case, tilting the cab—and checking a few items is long over! We can use the Isuzu data-recording module to run a“health report”on your vehicle. This provides not only electronic codes used in troubleshooting issues with your vehicle, but it also provides instant fuel usage, speed history, cooling history, accelerator frequency, and more. Our Service Department Isuzu recommends service intervals on our N-Series gas trucks at 7,500 miles and N-Series diesel trucks at 10,000 miles. The area of operation and utilization may cause these intervals to vary. However, when you come in for service, we do not do a quick oil change. We do a complete A service. It starts with running a health report and complete vehicle inspection, and then the maintenance starts. We do the following:

• • • • •

Change oil and filter

Top off all fluids

Check belts and hoses Lubricate king pins

Lubricate liftgate and roll-up doors, if equipped

• •

Rotate tires

And much more

After the maintenance is completed, we include a copy of the health report with recommendations and estimate the next A, B, C, or D service interval.

Our Parts Department We stock Isuzu Genuine parts, the same parts that are used when your vehicle is built. These high-quality parts are engineered for optimum performance. In addition, Isuzu’s rigorously tested Fleet Value parts offer high quality at a lower price point. Our Pledge toYou Whether you are purchasing a new or used Isuzu truck, bringing your vehicles in for service, or simply buying parts, we want to provide you with old-fashioned service. We look forward to being your total transportation supplier for sales, service, and parts.

The Best Skiing Destinations in the World

Who’s Ready for Some Powder? 3 OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST WINTER SPORT DESTINATIONS

The sound of the first carve through fresh powder is the anthem of all winter sports enthusiasts. Here are three of the world’s best places to experience that powder you’ve been craving all year. Breckenridge, Colorado John Denver’s anthem “Rocky Mountain High” is about the freedom he felt here. Where there are great mountains, there’s even better snow. The ski resort boasts five peaks, 187 trails, 34 lifts, four terrain parks, and a renowned cross-country trail. After a day on the slopes, head into the town of Breckenridge for dining and activities that ditch the glitz and glamour of Vail or Aspen and take you straight to the heart of fun. Whistler, British Columbia, Canada A destination that looks like a cross between a Nordic paradise and Olympic-level runs, Whistler is filled with true magic, winter activities, and a town that captivates the senses. When you see the mountains

of British Columbia, you’ll understand why they hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics. The location’s beauty is only part of your stimulating experience, because every curve of fresh powder makes your pupils dilate. Once you’re done flying down the hill where Bode Miller took the bronze, head over to the winter wonderland of the old Olympic Village for a cozy night in a picturesque town. St. Anton, Austria If you want a great location for next year’s Christmas card photo, there’s no better place than the Tyrolean Alps. Nestled in a valley between perfectly molded mountains, the Austrian landscape provides a beautiful backdrop for your winter excursions. The densely wooded areas and the bright reflection of the snow frame the vibrant town that’s just waiting to be explored. When you’re ready for world-class runs, hop in one of the 11 gondolas and zip down the hills that hosted the 2001 Alpine World Ski Championships.
