This increase is to match the City of Ottawa’s planned rate increase for all municipalities, like Russell Township, which are part of the Ottawa municipal water distribution system.
The work begins now to create a final budget plan for Russell Township to meet the municipality’s needs in 2019. Township council received the complete draft budget report during a special session January 14. Council will go over the report line by line during two days of review scheduled for January 24 and 25. “All the requests from the public are not included in this budget (report),” said Mayor Pierre Leroux, adding that all of those presentation briefs received last month will be part of next week’s overall budget review. The preliminary budget report suggests a tax increase of two per cent. For the average homeowner in Russell Township with a house valued at $300,000, that works out to a $32 property tax increase.
