April Senior Day Out: Awesome Artist

June Senior Day Out: The Art of Love, Greatest Artistic Love Stories & Affairs of the Art Music may be the food of love, but art has also acted as a powerful aphrodisiac. It is often said that the greatest artists also have the greatest love affairs. Let’s look at famous couples whose intense passions sparked each other’s best works. Join Felicia Stadelman for this Through the Eyes of the Artist program! Meal choices include a BBQ chicken salad or a vegan delight (grilled red and yellow peppers, onions, zucchini and yellow squash on vegan friendly focaccia bread). All entrees served with a beverage and dessert. Location: Beachwood Community Center

Ruth Pangrace portrays Louise Nevelson. Louise Nevelson was born in Russia, brought to Maine in 1905 and lived in New York City starting in 1920. She was an internationally famous artist who created striking assemblages of found wooden forms, and sculptures in steel, aluminum, Plexiglass, and other materials. Ruth Pangrace, an actress with Women in History, will bring this artist with the flamboyant personality to life. Meal choices include a tuna tarragon sandwich on focaccia or a Napa Valley turkey sandwich on focaccia. All entrees served

with crack kettle chips, beverage and dessert. Location: Beachwood Community Center

Holly’s Hearing Aid Center will be doing complimentary hearing screenings following the conclusion of our Senior Day Out luncheon on Thursday, April 20 from 2:00-3:00 PM. Call 216-292-1911 to schedule your 15-minute appointment.

July Senior Day Out: Traveling Music Marshall Griffith, pianist extraordinaire, will take us on a musical trip with songs about places and ways to get there. No need to pack your bag, nor find your passport, just bring your sense of adventure! Meal choices include a bistro salad or chicken Caesar salad. All entrees served with a roll, butter, beverage and dessert. Location: Beachwood Community Center

Carl Fernstrum will tickle the ivories and sing standards from the Great American Songbook for an aMAYzing afternoon. He received his B. A. in Music from Wayne State University in Michigan and attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program as a composer. He received his Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from The University of Akron. Be ready to clap your hands, tap your toes and sway to the songs! Meal choices include an all beef hot dog or grilled portobella mushroom on a bun. All entrees served with a picnic side, beverage and dessert. Location: Beachwood Community Center

August Senior Day Out: Cleveland’s Iconic Crossroads Join retired executive, local historian, wit and master storyteller Dennis R. Sutcliffe as he shares the story of Cleveland’s Iconic Crossroads. Originally known as Doan’s Corners, the area began as a stagecoach stop on the road from Buffalo to Cleveland. In the first half of the 20th Century it became an entertainment Mecca offering Clevelander’s a taste of New York City high-life. By the 1970’s it was referred to as an “inner-city Disneyland’ and was the flash-point for battles with the city’s power structure. Today it is part of the sprawling campus of Cleveland Clinic. Program includes audio clips from famous celebrities who performed in the neighborhood. Meal choices include primavera marinara or a roast beef sandwich.
