Biola Broadcaster - 1968-11

nearly 60 years Biota has published THE KING’S BUSINESS magazine, now distributed around the world. It’s thrilling to see our BROADCASTER going into more and more homes. Thank God for the testimony of the written Word. People are even more ready to read the Gospel bound in shoe leather (that ¿8, in your own life) than the one in actual print. The poet has well written: You’re writing a Gospel, a chapter each day By deeds that you do, and by words that you say. Men read what you write, whether faithless or true, Say, what is the Gospel according to you? RETURN NOT VOID One of the wonderful ways the Lord blesses His Word is through Gospel tracts. Have you ever given any one such a leaflet? Our students do it regu larly. Fascinating results have come through the power of God’s Holy Spirit. Never spurn one of these little Gospel evangels. There is a true story about an army officer who was leaving home for a term of service in a distant land. Just before he said goodby to his moth er, she gave him a bundle of tracts to distribute in the foreign country. He wasn’t interested in the least, although he didn’t let his godly mother know. Time wore on. He had been across the seas for several years. On his home ward journey, looking through his gear, he discovered the forgotten tracts. Remembering his promise to his mother, when his ship reached land, he threw the leaflets into the air. Years passed. The officer drifted farther away from God on the broad road of sin. The next time he shipped out while on board he only drank and gambled. A Christian officer was sailing aboard the vessel. He told him an almost unbeliev able story of his conversion. It seems that he had tried everything the world had to offer. One day when he had be come bankrupt financially, morally, and What one does in his spare time is really the acid test of his character.

CONCERNED CONFESSIONS A president of the United States re ceives many letters during his time in office. The most impressive and touch ing one for President Grover Cleveland, according to his own testimony came in September, 1895, and was written by a young teenager. It read, To His Majesty President Cleveland: Dear Sir, I am in a dreadful state of mind and I thought I would write and tell you all about it. Two years ago, as near as I can remember, I used two postage stamps which had been used before on letters. (Perhaps more than two stamps, but I can only remember doing it twice.) I didn’t realize what I had done until lately. My mind is constant ly on that subject and I think of it night and day. Now, dear President, will you please forgive me and I will promise you I will never do it again. Enclosed find the cost of three stamps and please forgive me for I was then but 18 years old. I am heartily sorry for what 1 have done. From one of your loyal subjects The President was deeply touched by such conviction and remorse. There’s no shame in asking for forgiveness. As children by faith in the King of kings, we need to come to Him daily for cleansing from sin. Then, and only then, can we enjoy the wonderful peace which God has assuredly promised. THROWING INK Without question, one of the most important avenues of reaching the minds of men is through the printed page. All over the world we find people striving to learn to read in order to understand others. Communication is strategic. According to his biography, one day Martin Luther, as he indus triously worked on his translation of the Bible into German threw his ink pot at the devil. Today, too, we need to throw ink at the devil. By this we have referene to our modem press. For 28 Wearing a cross cannot take the place of bearing your cross.
