3 Trends for Outdoor Entertaining in 2022 Make Your Annual Easter Brunch Even More Special!
Take a Break
Last year, Dennis and I hosted an outdoor Easter dinner to provide a more social-distanced space for people during the pandemic. We loved it, especially because the spring is such a beautiful time of year
for outdoor entertaining. In that spirit, we thought we would share a few tips for outdoor entertaining that might be especially useful! No. 1: Make seating personalized — maybe with painted eggs!
We have all seen regular paper table settings with names on them. In recent years, you might have even seen the trends on

TikTok and Instagram of chalkboard name cards, DIYwreath name cards, and more. But what about “seating name cards” that are actually a painted egg with the guest’s name or initials on it? The tradition of painting or dying eggs originated nearly 2,500 years ago as a springtime celebration and it will certainly give your spring table a fresh appeal! No. 2: Find outdoor activities that involve the whole family. The weather is perfect for a family soccer game or even an egg hunt! Whether you prefer painted or plastic eggs with unique candy or money prizes inside, you will find that pulling your kids off their iPads is easier if they have a treasure to find. If your kids need to engage their imagination with the activity, remind them that egg hunting was popularized by royalty, and they are basically princes and princesses. On Sunday, April 7, 1833, the 14-year-old Princess Victoria wrote in her diary: “Mama did some pretty painted & ornamented eggs, & we looked for them.” No. 3: Create many single-serving snacks, treats, even charcuterie. There was a trend in 2020 of “jarcuterie,” in which hosts would stuff 8-oz jars with beautiful individual arrangements of fruit, cheese, dried meats, and herbs as a single serving of charcuterie for a guest (rather than a shared board or grazing table). In 2022, the trend is very much alive in new forms. Whether they are adorable single-serve tiramisu cups, cobbler ramekins, fruit kabobs, or maybe Lisa’s peanut butter chocolate eggs, there are lots of creative ways you can impress your guests without forcing them to share! No. 4 (Bonus): Show off your garden. If you have been working on a garden since 2020, now is the perfect time to call a landscaper or start planting your own! If you do not know where to start, planting herbs might be a great way to freshen up both your outdoor space and your meal. We hope all your outdoor spring get-togethers go smoothly, and maybe one of our tips even helped! Thanks for reading!
