Radiology GEO - FACULTY HANDBOOK

8. A description of activities and accomplishments related to the administration of programs of clinical care and/or the organization of clinical service for more effective clinical care. The ability to organize a clinical service and/or administration that provides a setting for medical education and a database for clinical research is a most laudable goal for the clinician educator. Ideally, a unique and effective clinical service is reported in an appropriate medical journal. PROFESSOR Candidates for appointment, reappointment, or promotion to Professor have fulfilled the expectations described for appointment to Associate Professor. It is expected that candidates for appointment or promotion as Professor have outstanding research accomplishments, have made significant contributions to clinical service and have a deep commitment to teaching, and that these achievements have been recognized at the local, regional, national and international level. Documentation of ongoing scholarship is the most critical criterion and includes a sustained record of publications. It is anticipated that the individual be a project leader or key collaborator of a focused research program and have grant support at the national level. For those focused on health care improvement science, leading multisite collaboratives or networks, and/or executing a portfolio of system-wide improvements that favorably affect outcomes for patients are accomplishments that are appropriate for promotion to this level. A Professor is also expected to serve as a mentor for younger faculty members and must have a masteryof the discipline. This individual should serve in leadership roles in the department, college, and in professional societies, governing boards and community outreach programs. Evidence of excellence in research include: 1. A list of the candidate's publications in appropriate peer-reviewed clinical, translational or basic science journals. Quality of the research and publications is given greater weight than the quantity. For promotion, evidence of academic productivity while at UC has greater weight than previous work at other institutions. Senior authorship is given greater weight, as it is evidence of the development of an ongoing, productive program of focused clinical investigation. 2. Participation as a principal investigator and/or co-investigator on major research grants. Source of this funding may include National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Cooperative groups, industry, foundations, professional association, and/or philanthropic groups. Faculty candidates at this level should have a portfolio of several active grants and/or funding support from other entities to maintain their research programs. 3. Local, regional, national or foundation grant support for independent investigative clinical studies. Participation in impactful investigator-initiated and/or cooperative group multicenter trials provide strong evidence of scholarship and national standing. Service as the Principal Investigator these studies is evidence of national/international standing. Pharmaceutical trials that attempt to move the field
