OUT AND ABOUT Chichester’s shopping scene has bucked the national trend – its quaint high street remains a buzzing hub. Alongside the standard high street stores, you will find a plethora of high-quality independent businesses. At the heart of any market town is a market, and Chichester’s is an excellent one, held every Wednesday and Saturday morning. Chichester Farmers' Market is held fortnightly, and traders must grow, rear or bake their own goods and be based within a 30-mile radius of the city. Chichester residents are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants. While the obvious choice might be to head to a country pub, there are plenty of international options too. Franco Manca is a popular choice for pizzas and Jungle Junction is a must-visit for Indian lovers. The best way to get to know the city is by following the city walls walk – Chichester’s Roman walls were built 1,800 years ago and, with 80% of the structure still standing, are the most intact in Southern England. From there, head to
developments popping up to meet the demand for more affordable homes. The entire centre is a conservation area, and the house prices obviously re ect this, with North, South, East and West Pallant, off South Street, offering some of the most desirable homes in the city. If period properties are your thing, you’re in luck – the streets around the city boast Grade II listed Georgian townhouses and terraces with period features including sash windows. Head out of the city for more reasonable prices. In the suburbs, you’ll nd more 1930s and post- war homes in addition to modern builds. It is also worth exploring the villages around Chichester, to identify areas that suit your lifestyle and budget. Summersdale, about a mile north of the city centre, is popular for its green spaces, while Fishbourne, to the west, offers a rural setting with easy access to the harbour. Tangmere, to the east,
