Maryland Transit Update Fall 2022

These changes, as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and subsequent bills, will help combat climate change by reducing air pollution in Maryland communities. Montgomery County Department of Transportation was awarded nearly $15 million for the purchase of 13 new hydrogen fuel cell buses. Another part of the effort includes the construction of a green hydrogen fueling site in Gaithersburg , which will be the first public transit application of green hydrogen on the East Coast. According to the release , MCDOT has committed to transition to a zero-emission fleet by 2035. Anne Arundel County, through the Maryland Transit Administration, was awarded $1,890,000 to purchase four diesel-electric hybrid buses.

Update on MDOT MTA LOTS

After a brief pause, the MDOT MTA LOTS Zero Emission Vehicle Transition Study is back underway. The project team continues to work through Vehicle Market Conditions and Service Modeling technical memos. Drafts of the technical memos and recommendations will be submitted to the Office of Local Transit Support for review by the end of October. Facility site meetings with the project team and each of the LOTS will begin in early December with completion of the study expected in early Spring of 2023.
