Ravenscroft Red Angus / Bowlin Cattle - Ravenscroft 12th Annual Red Angus Sale/Bowlin Angus Bull Sale [2/22/25]

Welcome Fellow Cattlemen

Thank you for taking the time to look at our bull lineup. This is our twelfth annual bull sale. The majority of our bulls sold have stayed in the Nebraska Sandhills region. Our first goal was to make bulls that thrive in our ranch environment. By doing this, our bulls have done well in west Texas, the high desert plains of Wyoming and Col- orado, and the Dakotas. The best compliment we receive from our customers is how great our bulls look when they come out of the cows in the fall. We want to develop bulls that are going to get the job done and hold up in any type of environment. We are the fourth-generation family to be ranching in the Nebraska Sandhills of Cherry County. The family ranch is the Three Bar Ranch. The ranch is a commercial cow/calf and yearling operation that has focused on rotational grazing practices since the 1980s. We calve our heifers in April and the cows will pasture calve in May and June. In the winter, our cows are run on cake and range. We run our registered cows in the same manner as the commercial herd. We feel there should not be a difference in how you run a seed stock cow and a commer- cial one. We believe the slower development of our bulls adds to the longevity of them. The bull calves are weaned and fed in a pasture environment, then will graze throughout the summer like our yearling steers; this shows us which calves have the performance to grow in our environment. Performance is still a must in how we develop our bulls. The bulls continue grazing throughout the summer until November when we start feeding them a protein pellet and hay until sale day. The protein pellet is “Bull Plus,” a pelleted bull developer from J & R Feeds that is formulated in a way that delivers an amino acid package designed to balance the existing amino acids found in the prairie hay being fed. Along with native grass hay, Bull Plus creates a ration that is extremely efficient at turning forage into muscle, paving the way for a bull that holds up to the demands of a breeding animal without showing the wear and tear that can be found with bulls developed on rations that are higher in starch. Bulls developed on Bull Plus consis- tently have a large scrotal measurement and pass fertility evaluations with flying colors, without compromising production excellence.

These sale bulls are the top half of the 2025 Bull crop. Thank you for taking the time to look at our program. Eric & Shannon Ravenscroft
