COMMERCIAL CATERING TECHNICIAN Learners will gain the skills and knowledge to install, maintain and repair commercial catering equipment. On successful completion, learners will have achieved the industry desired level of competence required to carry out the specific roles. COURSE OVERVIEW Throughout your study, you will cover a number of specialist areas including: Principles of operation of commercial catering equipment and appliances, including combination ovens, fryers, griddles, grills, dish/glass washers, microwave ovens, induction units, water boilers, boiler burners, open/solid range tops, hot plates and bain maries, deep fat and pressure fryers and forced draught burner appliances. Commercial Catering Gas Safety / Natural Gas Changeover from natural gas to Liquid Petroleum Gas. Core domestic Gas Safety for permanent dwellings. Safe working procedure for the Isolation of Electrical Supplies, as laid out in The Electricity at Work Regulations and BS7671. LENGTH The apprenticeship will take 30 months plus EPA (end point assessment). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You will need to have a good base level of English and maths to start. Those without GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or

above (or Level 2 equivalents) must have achieved this level prior to End Assessment. Please note, you will also be required to undertake an initial assessment prior to enrolment in order to assess your current level of English and maths. Your interviewer will discuss with you what minimum level you will need to achieve at initial assessment. You must be employed with a suitable employer and have all relevant contractual documentation in place prior to college enrolment. Employers will also set their own interview in addition to the college criteria. Whilst your technical skills and knowledge will develop over the course of your apprenticeship you will also need to demonstrate to potential employers that you possess the relevant skills and personal qualities and are willing to work and learn. PROGRESSION On successful completion candidates are able to join the Gas Safe Register. Possible progression on to area manager/managerial and supervisory roles. COURSE CODE: P8817
