TAWNA TACKLES TIE CITY TRAILS

Many of you may remember Tawna. She served as a physical therapy assistant at the Clinic from 2009 to 2015. We are happy to announce that she is back working part-time at the Clinic. Tawna enjoys running, especially trail running. On October 6, 2018, she participated in the Silent Trails Memorial Trail Race, a 10-mile race held annually at the Tie City Trailhead between Cheyenne and Laramie on the first Saturday of October. Silent Trails was first organized in 2002; it serves as a memorial to the eight UniversityofWyomingCross-Countryathleteswho lost their lives inamotorvehicleaccidentsouthofLaramie on September 16, 2001. These young men trained on the same trails where the race takes place. Chris Schabron is the race director. His brother, Nick Schabron, was one of the eight killed in the accident. Not only is Chris the director of the race, he is also, like his brother, an avid runner. He was the overall male finisher for the SilentTrails race this year, whileTawna placed second in her age group. Trail runningprovidesanexcellentworkout. It includes ascending and descending hills, negotiating rocks, logs, and tree roots. Running on uneven terrain is great for improving balance and agility skills, which is especially important as we age. Trail running engages all of the major muscle groups. The quadriceps and

Trail running in the outdoors is exhilarating to the senses and provides excellent conditioning for the cardiovascular system. Tawna enjoys running with others who share her love forrunning in thegreatoutdoors. Shealsofindsgroup runningtobeanexcellentmotivatorwhichencourages her to run harder. Exercising in a group can be an excellentmotivatorforanyactivity,whether it isrunning, swimming, walking or hiking.
