Yielded Will—“ I came . . . not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me” (John 6:38). A calm, settled dependence upon God leads to gratitude, to consecra tion, and to devotion to God. Eph. 1:15-23 Introduction: One of the great fail ures is lack of prayer one for an other. Paul prayed for the church at Ephesus, a prayer that each of us might well pray for one another at any church. He prays that they might have the spirit of Illumination in regard to Christ (w . 17, 20-23). The purpose of this illumination is the “acknowledgment of Him!” This is a good prayer for a pastor or anyone—that he might so picture Jesus that the person who is blind might get a picture of Him, and want Him (2 Cor. 4:6). a. Victory over death. You must see that He can provide you with life. “ I give unto them 'eternal life” (John 10:28). b. Intercessory work — recognize His present availability (v. 19). c. Authority over the universe our basis of assurance (w . 19-21). d. Head of the Church—derives life, energy and wisdom from union with Him (v. 22). e. God—the fullness of the God head bodily (v. 22). The Spirit of illumination is that which He has made available for us (w . 18, 19). Glory of His inheritance in the saints (v. 18). He rejoices in lives transformed by the new birth. If we rejoice over those whom we have led to the Lord, how much more He. Working of His mighty power (v. 19). The same Spirit indwells us that brought Him from the grave. The same power operates to deliver you from inward sin and outward opposition.
