These cour ses will in clud e th e thr ee practicum classes : 380 , 461 and 462. COURSES 150 Foundations of Ministry (3) An overviewof the discipline of Chris­ tian Education Ministries. Topics of study include the historical and theo­ logical nature of th e church , princi­ ples of evangelism and edification , spiritual gifts, training and equipping lay leadership , and an examination_ of contemporary career opportun1lles and para-drnrch ministries. Offered fall / spring. 251 Foundations of Leadership (3) Basics of biblical principles and lead­ ership theory and development of personal leadership qualities. Stu­ dents may choose a general B.A. in Christian Education Ministries or declare an area of specialization. If a general degree is sought, the student may choose elective courses from across the University to satisfy the total number of units needed for gradua­ tion , with the approval of the student 's academic advisor. If the student chooses to identify a specialization, evi­ dence of that focus should come through a list of IO units of specializa­ tion coursework approved in consulta­ tion with the student's ad\1sor. Elementary Teaching Credential Program The Christian Education Ministries/ teaching emphasis majors must complete a core of 55 units, of which 24 must be upper division and include: 150, 25 I, 260, 261 , 371, 372, 380, 382; Education 300, 330, 420, 430, 440, and 442. Bible 320 must be taken as the Bible elective. Education 440 may be taken before graduation in lieu of CE 461 and 462. Certain specific general edu­ cation courses are also required which include: Psychology 200 and Physical Education 201. This option combines the C.E. major core with liberal studies courses. This specialization requires ARTS 306, ENGL 380, MATH 111 and MUSC 306 for credential requirements. Students must pass the general knowledge sec­ tion of the National Teachers Exami­ nation (NIE) prior to student teach­ ing. The student must consult with the Departments of Christian Educa­ tion and Education for specifics. Those interested in this teaching 1.mien­ tial should be advised that all single subject teaching credential programs are undergving revision. Consult with the Education depart­ ment for details on current programs. Children Vocational opportunities with this option include children 's director or minister in a local church, a staff

member with organi za tions that mini s­ ter to children in the United States or on a mi ss io11 fi eld , a writer of materi­ als for use with children. Youth Voca ti onal opportunities fo r youth spec iali za ti on would include a loc al church youth director or minister, a club director for youth parachurch agenci es, a youth camp director, a Christian educa­ tion director in a church that emphasizes youth or an ass istant or associate pastor 111th responsibilities for youth. Adult and Family Vocational opportunities with this specialization include director/ pastor of adult and famil y ministries or asso­ ciate pastor with responsibilities in these areas. lntercu/tural Vocational opportunities with this option include service on a foreign mission field or service in one of the many subcultures in the United States. Diversified This option is for those who wish to design a specialization unique to their interests, such as church-related camping, counseling, communication, business, music, computer science, etc. Pre-Seminary Preparation For those who desire to pursue graduate work, th e undergraduate major has been designed to prepare the student for continued academic and professional development through enrollment in a theological seminary. The student graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education may be able to take advan­ tage of accelerated Master of Arts or Master of Divinity programs offered at Talbot School of Theology. Several specializations are offered with the M.A degree. Specific information and qualifications for these degree pro­ grams may be secured through an aca­ demic advisor in the C.E. department or from the Talbot admissions office. MINOR A 01ristian Education Ministries Minor requires the completion of 18 units including the following courses: 252, 261 and one of the age level courses (372, 373, 374). Nine additional upper di\1- sion units are also required which may be selected by the student from any C.E. departmental offerings. Bible 320 must be taken as the Bible elective.

OBJECTIVES At the completion of this major, students will have: realized their iden­ tity in relation to their position in Christ and their spiritual gifts and abili­ ties related to Christian ministries; demonstrated the essential knowledge and skills to study the Scriptures induc­ tively and to communicate biblical truths effectively; established a basic philosophy of Christian education which incorporates the biblical con­ cepts of discipleship and leadership; demonstrated their ability to be sensi­ tive to others as persons, understand­ ing how people function in both indi­ \1dual and group learning experiences; developed and demonstrated their ability to function successfully in teach­ ing roles and/ or in leadership roles. DEGREE PROGRAM A Bacludur of Am degre,e in Christian Education Ministries is offered upon com­ pletion of the university baccalaureate and major requirements. The Chnsuan Education Ministries major requires t11e completion of a core of 37 units, 24 of which must be upper division and include: 150, 251, 252, 260, 261, 371 , 380, 382, 415, 423, 461, 462 and one of tl1e following: 372, 373, 374. Bible 320 must be taken as the Bible elective. In addition to the 37-unit core, each student is encouraged to select a specialization of JO units to be tak_en either within or outside of the Chnst­ ian Education and Biblical Studies Departments to fulfill his/her elective requirements. Focuses on development of relation­ ships and communication skills between individuals and within small groups. Includes conflict resolution in ministry. Offered fall / spring. 261 Foundations of Development (3) Introduction to human development. Aspects of development will include the physical, intellectual, social, per­ sonal, moral and spiritual, covering the whole lifespan as a base for a more holistic Christian education ministry. Offered fall semester. 319 Media In Ministry (2) Skill development in the design and use of audio-visual technology for use in ministry to all age levels and in a wide variety of teaching settings. By arrangement. 320 Inductive Bible Study (3) Essentials of inductive study applied to biblical narrative and epistolary literature. Prerequisite: BBST I03. Offered fall/spring. 371 Evangelism and Discipleship (3) An overview of the biblical principles of evangelism and discipleship. The
