known and was about a half hour away, in beautiful Ocean, NJ. The interior was much more of a modern/rustic aesthetic, with nice wooden tables and and emptied aging barrels placed throughout. It was also dog friendly, which makes it even more appealing. Kane is a place that if it was down the street from me, I would go to all the time. While it didn’t have the cozy feeling of Carton, it was a great place to hang out, especially with a group. They have a large selection, but we knew we had to start with the essentials. We were told that the Head High IPA was the perfect beer to start with and they weren’t wrong. It was complex and nuanced, with a touch of citrus and a crisp finish. They did offer a wide variety, but if I had to say what they specialized in, it was IPAs. There were
For our last beer of the day, we each chose something different to make it a bit more interesting. Nick was raving about their Small Batch German Style Hefeweizen, calling it a smooth and intricate expression. I thought this was a bit pretentious, but then again… you know Nick. I did take a sip of the Hefeweizen, and I have to say it was really good. It would be a great partner for something like a Dunbarton Sobremesa… medium bodied and flavorful with a clean finish. We hit the road once more to stop for some dinner, where I decided to change things up and order a pizza. While it was a long day, I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was great to explore these fun and engaging breweries right in the heart of my own homestate.
