7. All candidates will participate in a transition seminar course (Nurs­ ing 300: Profess ional Nursing Semi­ nar) des igned to facilitate socializa­ tion into baccalaureate professional nursing. This course must be success-­ fully completed prior to enrollment in anyclinical nursing course. 8. It is recommended that all transfer-challenge students take Nursing 303 Assessment of the Cli ent-Theory and Cl ini cal; however , students may challenge tl1ese courses by examination if they feel they have a knowledge of the course conten t. Comparable courses ,viii be evaluated for transfer credit. 9. Students receiving financial assis­ tance may need to take 12 uni ts while they are challenging nursingcourses. 10. Following notifi catio n of acceptance into th e Departmen t of Nursing, the candidate may begin the challenge process. The process consists of examination with theory and clinical components. Contact the Department of Nursing for specific details. 11. Prior to going to the clinical agency, all challenge students must have a current CPR certificate . The Department of Nursing health fo rm required of all nursing majors must be submitted prior to clini cal challenge and admiss ion to clinical nursing courses. This is necessary fo r Biola to meet agency contract requirements. 12. Candidates for the challenge process have the option of scheduling the examinations in such a way that if unsuccessful , subsequent enrollment in the course is possible. 13. Course credit will be granted upon successful completion of the chal­ lenge exam. Courses may be challenged one time only. (C*) denotes that a class can be challenged for the units li sted. 14. Specific poli cies related to R.N. 's, L.V.N.'s or L.P. N.'s follow. Transfer cha ll enge stud en ts from other nur sin g pr og rams or ot her health profession backgrounds will be evaluated individually. TRANSFER/CHALLENGE POLICY For transfer nursi ng students, reg­ istered nurses, licensed vocat ional nurses and ot her applicants wit h health profession backgrounds. General Policies I. Transfer sn1dents who have not yet started nursing courses should apply as any other student for the program, meeting all prerequisites as outlined in the University catalog and Standard Cur- 1iculum Chart for the nursing major. 2. Applicants planning to chal­ lenge nursing courses must fir st be accepted by and fulfill all matricula­ tion requirements of Biola University. The Deparunent of Nursing should be contacted at the time of application to the Unive rsi ty. 3. Separate application must be made to the Department of Nursing. A $20.00 nonrefundable application fee made payable to Biola University, Department of Nursi ng must accom­ pany the application. It is recom­ mended tha t this be done concur­ rently with application to the Uni ve r­ si ty. Final acce ptance into nursing will not be made until official accep­ tance lO the University isgranted. 4. To be considered for accep­ tance into the nursing program, all app li cants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (may be admit­ ted provisi onally with a GPA of 2.5- 2.79 if space is availabl e) . 5. Transfer-challenge students who have met prerequisites compara­ ble to the generic students will have eq ual access fo r open spaces in all nursing courses . 6. It is recommended that the required non-nursing prerequisites are completed as outlined in the standard curriculum chart for the nursing major before entering clinical nursing courses (except 30 unit option ). Transfer credit for non-nursing courses will be granted by the Registrar's Office as indicated in the university catalog. If a gi ven nursing course from a regionally accred ited nursing program is comparable in con­ tent and level to a given course offered by the Department of Baccalaurea te Nursing, transfer credit will be granted.

To be taken concurrently with NURS 364 - Th eory. Graded on a credit/ no credit basis. Must earn at least a "C" (2.00) for credit. (C*) 441 Introduction to Nursing Research (2) The research process applied to nursing includes problem definitions and basic research design. Each student works on developing a basic research proposal. Prerequisites: 340, 342, 344, 362, 364, 366. Statistics (may be taken concur­ ren tlywith consent of instructor). 442 Applied Nursing Research (1) Opportunity to critique literature, continue work on research proposal or participate in a research project. Prerequisite: 44 1. 450 Leadership/Management in Nursing - Theory (2) Combin es theo ry of leadership and nursing care deli very systems ,vith issues and trends in nursing. Prerequisites: 340,342,344,362,364,366. (C*) . 451 Leadership/Management in Nursing: Team Leading - Clinical (3) Clin ical app li cat ion of leadership / management theory in giv in g and directing care fo r a group of clients. To be taken concurrently with Nurs­ ing 450 - Th eory. Grad ed on a credit/ no credit basis. Must earn at least a "C" (2.00) fo r credit. (C*) 452 Leadership/Management in Nursing: Elective Setting-Clinical (2) Clinical applica tion of leadership/ man­ agement theory in a clin ical setting selected by tl1e student in collaboration 1vith faculty. Examples include critical care, emergency room, intensive care, pediatrics, maternity, medical-surgical , missions. To be taken concurrentlywitl1 Nursing 450 - Theory.
