COURSE DESCRIPTIONS DE 801 Historical and Philosophical Thought in Education (3) An advanced course in the history and philosophy of Christian education. Significant historical trends and topics are analyzed in the process of developing a philosophical perspective. Emphasis is placed upon correct reasoning in the educa­ tional process as well as the avoidance of fallacious arguments in the evaluation of ed­ ucational theory and content. DE 803 Perspectives in Human Development and Education (3) An advanced study of theories concern­ ing and characteristics of significant aspects of life-span development. Investigation cen­ ters upon the relationships between types of development and the significance of these patterns for the nurturing of spiritual growth in family as well as ministry contexts. DE 804 Organizational Administration in Educational Leadership (3) An investigation of significant theories and principles of effective administration with an emphasis upon the integration of management theory with biblical concepts concerning relationships within the body of Christ. The character of local church and organizational ministry leadership in vari­ ous cultural settings is discussed. DE 806 Advanced Seminar in the Integration ofFaith and Learning (3) The investigation of models for the inte­ gration of biblical truth and behavioral sci­ ence theory and research as well as the ed­ ucational process. Student research will in­ volve the testing of integration models for theological integrity and practical utility. DE 807 Advanced Seminar in the Philosophy ofEducation (3) Analysis of classical and contemporary approaches to the philosophy of education. Student research will result in the presenta­ tion of significant evaluation of particular philosophies and philosophers of education and their implications for the practice of truly biblical educational ministry.

DE 822 Advanced Seminar in Educational Methods and Materials (3) Emphasis upon models of curriculum de­ sign and the development of media that en­ rich the educational process. The relation­ ship of design and delivery is also investigat­ ed with a view to enhancement of the act of teaching in varied educational settings. DE 823 Advanced Seminar in the Educational Process (3) Detailed study of the educational pro­ cess in relation to the purposes of Christian education and the nurture of faith and faith­ fulness in large and small group settings. Formal, non-formal, and informal education­ al processes are investigated for local church and other ministry settings, includ­ ing higher education. Student research involves the application of a biblical approach to ethics in the evaluation of contemporary thought concerning morality and the nurture offaith. Educational implica­ tions are a significant aspect of this study. DE 837 Advanced Seminar in the Integration ofDevelopmental Research (3) Acomprehensive examination of research literature involving aspects of human develop­ ment relevant to a wide range of problems and issues within Christian education. DE 841 Advanced Seminar in Contemporary Management (3) Focused investigation of the value and effectiveness of current management trends. The appropriateness of particular techniques for the administration of profit and non-profit ministry organizations char­ acterized by paid and volunteer staff is eval­ uated. Particular attention is paid to the ef­ fect of specific management styles upon in­ dividual and corporate spiritual growth. DE 842 Advanced Seminar in Personnel and Programming (3) Multi-faceted analysis of the role of inter­ personal relationships in leadership devel­ opment and ministry programming in the body of Christ. Special emphasis is placed upon the responsibilities of leaders in the recruitment, training, maintenance, and re­ ward of ministry team members in a wide range of local church and Christian organi­ zational functions . DE 846 Selected Topics in Educational Leadership (1-4) Special studies in a variety of formats in­ tended to provide awareness and under­ standing of issues and problems related to core course and seminar content. Credit for class participation can be supplemented by a range of individual and group projects and educational experiences. DE 880 Directed Research/ Professional Internship (1-4) · Individual study, directed reading, field research, or professional internship for the purpose of program specialization in regard to topics and issues not covered sufficiently in other courses and seminars. This experi­ ence must be conducted under the guid­ ance of an approved faculty supervisor. A learning contract must be prepared and a product appropriate to the topic and units earned must be submitted for evaluation.
