(C*) 300 Professional Nursing Seminar (1-3) A transition seminar designed to fucilitate so­ cializ.ation into baccalaureate professional nurs­ ing. Designed for transfer-challenge students. 305 Pharmacology (2-3) A study of the characteristics of drug families, drug actions and metabolism, ther­ apeutic uses, untoward responses, precau­ tions and contradictions. Principles for making sound nursing judgments in the ad­ ministration of medications. 310 Behavioral Concepts for Nursing Practice (2) Concepts affecting the role of the profes­ sional nurse in promoting adaptive equilibri­ um. One and one-half hours lecture; one and one-half hours discussion. (C*) 320 Directed Individual Studies (1-3) Permits students to pursue special inter­ ests related to the profession of nursing. Open to clinical nursing majors only with written consent of instructor. May be re­ peated with different content. Maximum of six units may be taken for credit. 321 Clinical Enrichment (1-4) Opportunity for additional application of the nursing process in selected health care settings. Primary focus is on pathophysiology in the physical subsys­ tem. Prerequisite: 206, Biology 282. 340 Nursing ofthe Client/Family with Complex Mental Health Problems - Theory (2) Concepts related to nursing of adults with problems of adaptation resulting in psychopathology. Focus is on the applica­ tion of the nursing process to problems of psychopathology. Prerequisite: 206. (C*) 340 Nursing ofthe Client/Family with Complex Mental Health Problems - Clinical (2) Clinical application of the nursing process with clients in mental health setting. (C*) 350 Nursing ofthe Childbearing Family -Theory (3) Implementation of the nursing process utilizing a family-centered approach to child­ bearing and maternal health promotion. Prerequisites: 206, Biology 282. (C*) 350 Nursing of the Childbearing Family - Clinical (3) Clinical application of the nursing process in providing family centered maternal health care in acute and community settings. (C*) 360 Nursing ofthe Childrearing Family -Theory (3) Implementation of the nursing process uti­ lizing a family centered approach to child- rear­ ing, child health promotion, and care of the ill child. Prerequisites: 206, Biology 282 (C*) 360 Nursing of the Childrearing Family - Clinical (3) Clinical application of the nursing process in providing family centered child health care in acute and community settings. (C*) 441 Introduction to Nursing Research (2) The research process applied to nursing in­ cludes problem definitions and basic research design. Each student works on developing a basic research proposal. Prerequisites: 330, 340, 350, 360, Statistics (may be taken concur­ rently with consent of instructor). 442 Applied Nursing Research ( 1) Opportunity to critique literature, contin­ ue work on research proposal or participate in a research project. Prerequisite: 441.

Students may select experience from several clinical settings. 460 Nursing in the Community - Theory (3) Combines nursing theory with concepts of community health and community men­ tal health. Prerequisites: 330, 340, 350, 360.

TRANSFER/CHALLENGE POLICY For transfer nursing students, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses and other applicants with health profession backgrounds. General Policies 1. Transfer students who have not yet start­ ed nursing courses should apply as any other student for the program, meeting all prerequisites as outlined in the University catalog and Standard Curriculum Chart for the nursing major. 2. Applicants planning to challenge nursing courses must first be accepted by and fulfill all matriculation requirements of Biola University. The Department of Nursing should be contacted at the time of application to the University. 3. Separate application must be made to the Department of Nursing. A $20.00 nonrefundable application fee made payable to Biola University, Department of Nursing must accompany the applica­ tion. It is recommended that this be done concurrently with application to the University. Final acceptance into nursing will not be made until official ac­ ceptance to the University is granted. 4. In addition to the official transcijpts sent to the Office of Admissions, separate of­ ficial transcripts (including high school, school of nursing and any other college or Bible school) must be sent directly to: Biola University, Department of Nursing, 13800 Biola Avenue, La Mirada, CA 90639-0001. Transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions are not forwarded to the Nursing Department. 5. To be considered for acceptance into the nursing program, all applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
