SPIRJTUAL D EVELOPMENT Focus DE 830 Developmental Research and Spirituality (2) Topics each semester will be selected from lifespan developmental areas and relat­ ed to the development of spirituality. Specific course content will vary for each semester and may include: cognitive (thought process), physical, psychosocial (Ericksonian stages) and affective (emotion­ al maturation). Consideration will be given to significant influences and variations of de­ velopment. (Prerequisite: DE 803) DE 833 Moral and Value Development (2) Principles and sequence of moral devel­ opment and the development of commit­ ment to values; consideration of significant influences on development by Christian ed­ ucators and parents; examinations of devel­ opmental variations with implications for spiritual growth. (Prerequisite: DE 803) DE 835 Christian Faith Development (3) Definition of the development of Christian faith, its assessment, and compari­ son of research on faith development with the Biblical data and theological perspec­ tives. (Prerequisite: DE 803) DE 837 Integration of Theological and Developmental Research (3) Examination of the relationships be­ tween developmental principles and Biblical/ doctrinal themes. The applica­ tions of integration explored in areas such as discipleship and socialization. Characteristics of optimal environmental factors influencing development will be con­ sidered. (Prerequisite: DE 803, 806)

EDUCATIONAL PROCESSES Focus DE 821 Integration of Theology and Educational Process(3) Historical studies of both Old Testament and New Testament institutions for education from Biblical and other sources. Analysis of the teaching ministry of Jesus for principles and process in individual instruction, group teaching and training. Special emphasis of study in the ministry of the Holy Spirit in re­ lationship to learning theories, biblical in­ struction, and teacher-learning process. A re­ search seminar with emphasis on creative ap­ plications. (Prerequisite: DE 805, 806) DE 822 Principles of Teaching (2) Analysis and practice of principles of teaching. Emphasis on how to effectively lecture, motivate and teach for retention. Writing of objectives, lesson plans, high level thinking, use of questions also dis­ cussed. Field experience required . (Prerequisite: DE 805)

RESEARCH COURSES (REQUIRED) DE 880 Directed Research(l-4) Individual study, directed reading or field research into topic of student interest after at least 24 units have been completed. Such study must be done with the approval and supervision of a faculty professor of record. The student is expected to submit a detailed course proposal and bibliography on a learning contract form available from the admissions and records office. DE 885 Statistical Analysis in Christian Education (3) Development of competency in using and interpreting both descriptive and infer­ ential statistics as related to educational re­ search. To enable the student to appropri­ ately choose and compute various statistical packages, analyze the resultant data cor­ rectly, in Christian Education oriented re­ search. Emphasis is given to the use of the computer in the computation of data and statistical application most relevant for the needs of Christian Educators. (Prerequisite: CE 633 or a master's level course in re­ search or test and measurements) DE 888 Research Design (3) Plan and complete a modest research project and study research methods and techniques. These include: design, sam­ pling, direct observation, data processing, interviews, and questionnaires. Competency demonstrative of a research technique for completion of seminar. (Prerequisite: DE 885) DE 890 Advanced Research Seminar (2) Deals with research and writing for pro­ posal and dissertation development, includ­ ing applied research design, structure of re­ search studies, statistical consideration, sampling, common errors in research and professional writing for journal publication and research. (Prerequisite: DE 888) DE 891 Dissertation (3 or 6) Research and writing of an approved doctoral dissertation under the direction of major advisor and dissertation committee. (Prerequisite: DE 885, 888 and 890) DE 892 Continuous Dissertation Registration (0) Students who have not completed their dissertation after completing the required 12 units must register for this class until completion of the dissertation. DE 823 Seminar in Educational Processes (3)

The educational process in relation to the purpose of education, human growth, the na­ ture of learning and the dynamics of groups in a variety of situations. Emphasis on the development of self-esteem, creativity, impor­ tance of affect in the classroom, and different forms of education (formal, non-formal, and informal). (Prerequisite: DE 805)

DE 824 Curriculum Design and Development(2)

Curriculum issues and problems, their rationale, and implications for ministry. Emphasis on the development of curricu­ lum for the integration of faith, learning, and life. Different models for designing curriculum and instruction. Curriculum de­ signed for specific settings required. Previous course in curriculum design sug­ gested. (Prerequisite: DE 805) DE 826 Cross-Cultural Learning (2) Education within the cross-cultural con­ text, designed to develop concepts of educa­ tional philosophy and practice, learning styles, teaching roles, and anticipated re­ sults. (Prerequisite: DE 805) DE 828 Intergenerational Learning (2) Analysis of literature, material, and prac­ tice concerning inter-generational learning. Specific field project developed. (Prerequisite: DE 805)
