PT 602 Pastoral Ministry (3) A study of a pastor's call, purpose, and role in ministry. Special attention will be given to providing leadership in worship, music, ordinances, weddings, funerals, and hospital and home visitation. The priority and care of ministerial staff families will be addressed as well as community relations. Required of M.Div. (Pastoral and General Ministries, Christian Education). YI' 691 Field Education (0) Weekly involvement in ministry with sat isfactory completion of student's self-evalua tion form, supervisor's evaluation form and lay leader's interview form. Required of M.Div. students. YI' 692 Field Education (OJ Weekly involvement in ministry with sat isfactory completion of student's self-evalua tion form, supervisor's evaluation form and sermon evaluation form. Required of M.Div. students.
CHURCH GROWTH PT 510 Evangelism and Discipleship (3) The biblical principles and practice of evangelism and discipleship. The class will seek to develop the skills of personal evange lism, determine strategies for a discipleship ministry, and explore the theory and practice of small group ministries. Required of M.Div., and M.A. (B/TS. emphasis) students. YI' 612 Advanced Evangelism (2) A survey of the history of evangelism and revivals. An examination of various strategies such as TV., mass, crusade, street and pulpit evangelism and the giving of invitations and altar calls. Prerequisites: PT 510. Elective. YI' 622 Church Planting in the USA (2) The study of the components, such as geography, demography, strategy and im plementation, that goes into church plant ing in the USA. Elective. YI' 624 Principles of Church Growth in the USA (2) A biblical study of church growth princi ples. An analysis of contemporary prac tices. Prerequisites: PT 510. Elective. PT 630 Discipleship (2) An examination of interpersonal relation ships and character development as applied to the process of discipleship. Prerequisite: PT 510. Elective. YI' 724 Small Group Ministries (2) Roles of small groups in the church in pro viding fellowship, mutual ministry and edifica tion. Skills for organizing and leading groups. Introduction to dynamics of small group inter action. Elective. (Same as CE 605.) CHURCH MINISTRY AND MANAGEMENT PT 591 Introduction to Field Education (1) Introduction into the practical elements of ministry. Emphasis will be placed on ca reer planning, field experience and prepara tion for Field Education Internship in the M.Div. program. Required of M.Div. stu dents. Lab fee: $40. OBJECTIVES The purpose of the Practical Theology de partment is to prepare the student for three areas of service: to lead the body of Christ in worship; to lead and equip Christians to build up one another; and to train them to reach their community for Christ. COURSES HOMILETICS AND WORSHIP YI' 609-610 Sermon Preparation (3, 3) A consideration of the fundamentals of speech as they relate to the pulpit ministry. A study of the techniques and fundamentals of sermon construction and persuasive delivery of expository sermons. PT 609 is prerequi site to PT 610. Required of M.Div. students; PT 609 required for M.A. (Min.) students. YI' 617 The Pastor and Music (2) A study in the theory and practice of church music, an analysis of contemporary music and the development of basic skills in leading congregational singing and wor ship. Elective. YI' 620 Principles and Practice of Worship (2) Exploration of biblical, psychological, practical, historical and contemporary di mensions of Christian worship. Elective. PT 711 Advanced Sermon Preparation (2) A skill-refinement practicum in the es sentials of expository preaching, including evaluation of off-campus pulpit ministry. Prerequisites: PT 609, 610. Elective. YI' 715 Principles and Ethics of Communication (2) An explanation of the principles of com munication and how they effect learning and change. An examination of the ethical issues of persuasion such as emotional appeals, use of guilt, fear and personalities. Elective. PT 726 Creative Preaching (2) An exploration of several ways to pro claim God's Word such as topical, textual, inductive, dialogical, dramatic narrative, evangelistic and life situation preaching. Prerequi sites: PT 609, 610. Elective.
PT 730 Biblical Leadership and Management (3)
The biblical basis for organizational man agement and leadership. Examination of the process of planning, organizing, leading and supporting from a biblical basis and made applicable to Christian service and ministry. Required of M.Div. (Pastoral and General Ministries).
YI' 734 Church Finance and Administration (2)
An examination of the biblical principles of stewardship, fund raising and financial accountability. Office and physical plant ad ministration as well as the use of the com puter will be addressed. Prerequisite: PT 602. Elective. YI' 791-792 Field Internship (2, 2) Integration of all the disciplines of min istry and seminary education. It provides supervised experience in various phases of Christian ministry. One hundred hours of field experience each semester are evaluat ed in classroom interaction. Required of M.Div. (Pastoral and General Ministries, Christian Education) students. Prerequisite: PT 602; Completion of 64 hours of the M.Div. program for PT 791, 80 hours for PT 792.
