Thesis
There are two consecutive thesis seminars for those electing to write a thesis (Thesis First Draft and Thesis Final Draft). These seminars are taken during the stu dent's last year. During the third semester before graduation, the student must, with the approval of his major advisor, select a thesis subject, do research, and develop an outline and bibliography. During the final year, the thesis can be written in conjunc-• tion with these two courses. See the Talbot student handbook and li brary handbook for dates, deadlines and re quirements. HE 793 Thesis First Draft/ MA. (0) Required for M.A. (B.E., N.T., O.T. , TH., and BITS) students. Fee: $100. HE 794 Thesis Final Draft/MA. (OJ Required for M.A. (B.E., N.T., O.T., TH., and BITS) students. Fee: $100. HE 795 Thesis First Draft/MA. C.E. (2) Required for M.A.C.E. students. This course will be taken at the completion of 32 units. Neither this course nor HE 796 is ap plicable toward graduation unless both have been completed. HE 796 Thesis Final Draft/MA. C.E. (2) Required for M.A.C.E. students. This course will be taken at the completion of 48 units. Neither this course nor HE 795 is ap plicable toward graduation unless both have been completed. HE 797 Thesis First Draft/MDIV. (2) Required for the M.Div. students. This course will be taken at the completion of 64 units. Neither this course nor HE 798 is ap plicable toward graduation unless both have been completed. HE 798 Thesis Final Draft/ MDIV (2) Required for the M.Div. students. A study of the conflict between the king dom of darkness and the kingdom of light with an emphasis on the authority, power, protection as well as the vulnerability of the believer. The techniques of counseling the spiritually afflicted are also considered. (Cross listed with PT 802) ST 860 The Church in Third World Societies (3) The message, method and role of the evangelical church in societies undergoing socio-technological change. Elective for Th.M. students, others by departmental permission.

ST 662 Mission in Political Context Consideration of modern political ideolo gies and movements as they affect the church and its mission in selected national contexts. ST 665 Leadership (3) Cross-cultural study of leadership includ ing diverse patterns of authority, legitimacy, public support, leadership recruitment, and training as they affect communication, Church growth and development worldwide. ST 672 Bible Translation (3) Principles of the semantic analysis of dis course structure. Prerequisite: Advanced Linguistics. ST 680 The Local Church and World Missions (3) Designed to integrate principles of cross cultural communication and theology and strategy of missions within a total conceptu al framework to aid the local church in mis sion involvement. ST 775 Anthropology/ Linguistics for Biblical Interpretation (3) An integration course, exploring how methods and perspectives in anthropology and linguistics may illuminate linguistic and cultural features of scripture, building upon the foundation of the grammatical historical method of Biblical interpretation. Prerequisite: BE 517 Hermeneutics and Bible Study Methods.
The concept of theological education by extension, including its history, objectives, methodology and the writing of programmed instruction with particular emphasis on mis sionary application. Elective for Th.M. stu dents; others by departmental permission. ST 872 Advanced Bible Translation (3) Discourse considerations in translating from Greek into indigenous languages. Prerequisite: Greek.
