DISCIPLINE Biola University is dedicated to the training of people who are sincere and earnest in their desire to live for Jesus Christ. Because this is true, students are expected to give evidence of conduct consistent with such a profession. The disciplined life is consistent with the biblical model for a Christian. By enrolling in the University, each student is enter ing into an agreement with Biola to be responsible for certain details of activity and conduct. This agreement is explained in a "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities" which every prospective student receives as a part of the admissions process. Students whose attitudes prove to be uncooperative may be asked to withdraw from the University. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY As a Christian institution, Biola University is espe cially concerned that sound moral values are practiced in all areas of university life. Honesty in academic work is essential for personal growth and an ethical life pleas ing to God. While it may be difficult to define academic dishonesty in a way agreeable to all, the following general statements should help. Academic dishonesty involves cheating of any kind. This includes copying the work of another student, using hidden notes or aids on a quiz, or examination. It also includes submitting papers or projects that have been copied from any sources without thoughtful reworking by the student or

a giving of credit for the source. Representing the words or thoughts of another as one's own is a form of academic dishonesty known as plagiarism. Giving unfair assistance to other students is also dishonest. Academic dishonesty is considered a serious offense, and will be handled by individual faculty in various ways including lowered grades or possible loss of course credit. The faculty member will work with the dean for Student Affairs to consider further disciplinary action, including dismissal. FAMILY EDUCATION RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and provisions of the California Education Code set out requirements designed to govern the access to, and release of, educational records, to estab lish the right of students to inspect and review their records, and to provide guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through informal and formal hearings. Students also have the right to file complaints with the FERPA Office (U.S. Dept. of Education) concer"ning alleged failures by Biola to comply with provisions of FERPA. Biola University has adopted policies and proce dures concerning implementation of FERPA on campus. Copies of the policy are available in the Registrar's Office.
