ate semester units of psychology wh ich include deve lopmental psychology, theo ries of psychology, and abnormal psychol ogy plus eight units of Bible and/ or doc trine courses. An undergraduate speech, presentation or teaching course is also a prerequisite to admission. If these units were not part of the student's undergradu ate program they must be taken prior to completion of 36 units toward the degree. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS A. Satisfactorily complete 68 semester units. B. Take the courses prescribed in the Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Mi ni stry curriculum. C. 400 hours of supervised field ministry approved by faculty advisor. D. A maximum of six units towards course work in Marriage and Famil yMinistries may be transfe rred. E. Chri stian education core cou rses must be taken in residence. F. Receive 30 hours of didactic personal counseling at own expense. A student must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) to graduate. Students are placed on academic probation if their GPA for any semester fa ll s below 3.0 and remain on probation as long as the single semester o r cumu lative GPA remains below 3.0. Probation students are granted one semester in which to bring their aca demic work up to the required level (3.0) for continuance in the seminary. A stu dent cannot graduate while on probation. .MAJOR REQUIREMENTS The academic program leading to the Master of Arts degree in Marri age and Family Ministries is structured to include (1 ) bibl ical and theological foundations; (2) understanding Christian education pri nciples, mini stry and ski lls; (3) a core curriculum consisting of foundat ion courses and practical skills in marriage and family ministry. THE STANDARD PROGRAM The program lead ing to the Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Fami ly Ministries includes a minimum o f 68 units. The student who is ab le to enroll for 17 units each semester of the academic program can complete the degree in two years. The student who enroll s fo r less than 17 units, wi ll require additional time to complete the degree program.
OBJECTIVES The Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Ministries is designed to equip those in the local church for a specific ministry to families. This program is designed to give an equivalent background and preparation in both the areas of Bible/ theology as well as counseling/teach ing. It is the design of this master's program to equip students in the area of preparation ministries (premari tal preparation and family life education through teaching and seminars) and in short-term counsel ing techniques including individual, marital and family counseling. A definite emphasis is placed upon recogni tion of disorders which would require greater special ization and training so minis terial staff can be better equipped to make referrals. The purpose is to provide the local church with special ists in the field of Marriage and Family Ministries who have built both their counseling and teaching skil ls upon a solid biblical/ theological base. T hi s program is under the supervis ion of the department of Christian education, since family ministries is one part of the total Chri stian educational ministry. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS App li cants must hold the Bachelor of Arts degree or its academic equivalent. They must have a minimum admission grade point average of 3.0 to be granted admission without provis ions . Graduates from approved unaccredited co ll eges, if accepted , wi ll be granted provisional acceptance, though exceptions may be made when the grade point average is 3.0 o r higher. Graduates from approved unac credited coll eges may be required to take certain additional li beral arts course work (not appl icable toward the graduate degree), if their und ergraduate program did not include these courses . All applicants must submit a written statement outl ining their vocational objec tives and how the degree might relate to those objectives. Applicants must submit a completed profile of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (M.M.P.I. ) taken with in the last 12 months. A limited number of students are admitted into the program each year. Preference will be given to students with experience in ministry. App li cants must have 12 undergradu-
