OM 833 DISCIPLESHIP IN THE LOCAL CHURCH (6) An in-depth examinati on of the bibli cal principles, history and methodology of discipleship. The course will emphasize the practical concern of how to develop an ongoing discipleship program in the local min istry. OM 834 ADVANCED CHURCH GROWTH (6) An in-depth look at cross-cultural issues facing churches in the U.S.A. Emphasis wi ll be placed on understanding the mosa ic of culture both within the typical anglo churches and ethn ic groups, as well as introducing the potential for ch urch plant ing. Prerequisite: DM 826. OM 850 SELF-STUDY (1-6) A directed individual study whereby the student may do advanced reading or research into an area of special interest. A proposal must be prepared according to guidelin es available in the D.Min. Office and approved by the D.Min . director.
OM 827 INTEGRATION OF THEOLOGY AND PSYCHOLOGY IN A COUNSELING MINISTRY (6) An in-depth examination of various leaders and models of counseling in vogue today. Evaluation of their success in inte grating psychology and theology in coun seling. Course is designed to ass ist the church leader to establi sh a lifestyle of integration as we ll as a phi losophy of inte gration that will have practical expression in a counseling ministry in the local church. (Requ ired for all persons in Marriage and Family Ministries.) OM 828 PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELING SKILLS (6) A course designed to he lp the pastor sharpen ski ll s in pastoral care and counsel ing. The student will learn and practice a model of helping which incorporates tech niques and approaches of the behavioral sciences as well as biblical principles. The student wi ll be exposed to li ve counseling sessions, extensive counse li ng practice and professionals in practice. (Additional work will be expected outside of class hours during the course.)
OM 823 FAMILY LIVING FOR ALL SEASONS (6) A course designed to provide the pastor or Chri stian worker with a developmental approach to family living. Exposure to developmental life changes in persons and · how change events in life - such as birth of a child, job change, death of parent - can affect marriage and family. (Required for all persons in Marriage and Fami lyMinistries. )
OM 824 THE PASTOR'S SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH (6)
A cours designed to examined the haz ards of the ministry as they pertain to the mental and spiritual health of the pastor. The pastor assisted in identifying the area of potential personal weakness and given resources for dealing with these problems. Attention given to aspects of the minister's role conflicts in his personal life, family life and ministry. Problem areas such as anger, depression, assertiveness, leadership and relationships will be exp lored. Techn iques for self-mod ifying behavior to grow spiritu al ly and emotionally presented. OM 825 SMALL GROUPS; AN EXPRESSION OF THE BODY OF CHRIST (6) A course focusing on birth, care and development of biblical smal l groups as they function in the life of the local church. Philosophy of sma ll group min istry explored with strategies for begin ning groups and maintaining them in the local church. Participants wi ll learn how to train lay leaders, how small groups func tion effectively and will be ab le to set up a smal l group progran1 in their ministry. OM 826 DYNAMICS OF CHURCH GROWTH (6) A course designed to understand scien tific principles developed to date in the field of church growth, to cover relevant contemporary literature on the subject and to acqu ire the basic ski ll s necessary for diagnosing the health of the local chu rch and designing programs for the future growth. Course is designed to provide lab o ratory field experience in studying church growth. Involves direct research into growing churches in Southern Californi a. (Additional work wi ll be expected outside of class hours during the course. )

OM 829 THE PASTOR AS A CRISIS COUNSELOR (6)
Student will develop ski ll s to help indi viduals confronting typical crises such as the birth of a child, illness, the loss of a job, marital conflict, career adjustment, bereavement, pre-marital pregnancy, retire ment and terminal disease. Attention given to prevention of stress in predictable developmental crises as we ll as recovery management following a crisis. A combi nation of clin ical exposure, case study and student experience used in this seminar.
OM 830 ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP IN THE LOCAL CHURCH (6) A course designed to lead student
through a biblical, organizational and psycho logical understanding of leadership, motiva tion, planning, managing conflicts, worker u-aining, evaluation, change principles and organ izational development. Participants have the opportunity to examine their leader ship style and to develop styles through group experiences and case studies that will make chem more effective leaders.
