out’1 has tremendous force. It means "absolutely apart from” (cf. Heb. 4:15). 2. “Being witnessed by the law” (V. 21). Here the definite article is found in the original because this reference ’is to the MoSaic law. While no law of any kind could ever have brought right eousness to sinners, this being God’s own work at the place called Calvary, nevertheless the Mosaic law does bear unmistakable witness to God’s righteous ness in the entire system of sacrifices which it demanded. When the worshiper of the .Old Testament broke the moral requirements of the law, his sacrifices constituted an a d m i s s i o n of guilt, and from God’s standpoint p o i n t e d to the work of Christ at Calvary. Thus the law, though it could not produce -righteousness, bore its clear witness to God’s righteousness. 3. “Do we then fnake void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law" (v. 31). Salvation by grace through God’s righteousness is the only system that really honors and establishes the law. All legalistic sys tems must either lower the standards ' of divine law or else wink at sin. But at Calvary all the high and holy demands of God’s eternal law wei;e enforced and satisfied. The Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us alL In a creed we believe about a person or circumstances; but in faith we re pose our trust upon a person. We must not believe about Christ only, but in Him, as Livingstone did, when on one occasion he was opposed at nightfall by an. army of infuriated savages, and was tempted to steal away in the dark; but his eye lit on the promise, “I will be with you all the days,” and he knew it was “the perfect word of a perfect gentleman.” Do not believe merely about Christ, but in Him.—From The Secret of Guidance,'by F. you will find published a list of the best books of the month. This list changes from one month to another. But there is one Book that remains the best throughout the years. When we see the word "Book” spelled with a capital letter, we know the Bible is meant. There is only one “capital let ter” book. An old writer of books was dying, and he said to the person who, was wait ing upon him, “Bring me the Book.” When this one asked what book he meant, he replied, “There is only one Book.” Yes, when we come to die there is- only one book. The Bible is the only book to live by, too. It is the only book that tells us how to be saved and receive eternal life; it is the only book that shows us how to make our lives here happy and victorious. The best that story books can promise us is entertainment. The Bible prom ises us all sorts of wonderful things. One of these promises says, “But the Scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe” (Gal. 3:22). Do you think a child could believe? What does our Golden Text say? The Lord Jesus thought so, didn’t He ? Will you not believe this morning ? OBJECTS: Three capital "F ’s” and a pair of scissors. two single “F’s” and one double. Color the inside of the double "F” red, .with the exception of the top bar, which is colored black. Attach with thumb tacks to the center of the blackboard.) LESSON: There is more in this “F" than appears at first. It has.two other “F’s” in it. We will place them on either side of the middle one. The middle “F” reminds me of the word “FACT.” In Romans 4:25, we read of a fact. The verse speaks of Christ “who was delivered for our of fences.” Paul was referring to the death of Christ on the cross. In order that we may better understand, I will cut this middle “F” with the scissors. [Cut the top bar off, horizontally, where it joins the upright.] When I open the remaining portion of the “F,” we see a red cross, remind ing us of the cross of Christ. Opening the top part of the “F,” we find that it makes a black capital “I.” We will place the “I” on the cross to show how the Lord Jesus bore our sins on His cross. The “F ’ to the left of the cross stands for the word “FAITH.” We must make the fa c t'that Jesus died for our sins our very own, receiving it by faith. The Bible speaks of Christians as “being justified by faith.” The ”F ’ to the right of the cross re minds us of the word “FEELING.” When we by faith accept the fact that the Lord Jesus died for our sins, we then have feeling, just as Paul wrote, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God” (Rom. 5:1). 15 If a brother or sister he naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them,"'De part in peace, be ye warmed and filled! notwithstanding ye give them not those things which áre needful to the bodyi what doth, it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 4*18 Go to now, ye) that "ay, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain* 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.
