DR. SAMANTHA KAPLAN skaplan@uwsp.edu
Samantha Kaplan is a professor in the Department of Geography and Geology at UW-Stevens Point. Her teaching and research are along the axes of climate science, geoscience, and sustainability. Samantha’s doctoral work examined climate change and sea level rise in southern Florida and the Everglades. More recently, she has explored how climate change has affected natural and human environments in Wisconsin and the upper Midwest. Samantha teaches courses in human impacts, geoscience, climate change, and sustainability, and serves as curator of Geology for the Olson Museum of Natural History. Samantha also
directs the undergraduate degree in Community Sustainability – an interdisciplinary program with emphasis in environmental justice and community leadership, and in urban policy and resiliency for sustainability. DR. MARCUS LEWIS mlewis@uwsp.edu
Dr. Marcus Lewis is an enrolled member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, a higher education leader, and proud UWSP alumnus (Class of 2007). He has dedicated his career to teaching/ learning, advocating for Native American education, and promoting educational equity for all. As a practitioner-scholar, Dr. Lewis maintains an active research agenda focused on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, and access for BIPOC and underrepresented peoples in PK12, higher education, and business and industry.
He currently works as the higher education director for the Ho-Chunk Nation and is the Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (SEED) Faculty Director in the Institute for Equity and Transformational Change at Madison College. At UWSP, Dr. Lewis is a Global Affiliate Scholar who teaches doctoral education courses in social justice, leadership, and research methods. In addition, he serves as both chairperson and member of dissertation committees. He lives in the Fox Valley with his bride and their two beautiful children.
