Contact the Education ALTERNATIVE ROUTE TO CERTIFICATION University Internship Program The University Internship Pro­ gram is an alternate route to certifica­ tion and is a non.<Jegree seeking pro­ gram. It allows candidates who have not completed a Professional Prepara­ tion Program to be employed with a designated school district while com­ pleting the requirements for certifica­ tion. This program is selective and is reserved for candidates who are espe­ cially mature and have met the follow­ ing requirements prior to the issuance of a certificate to enter the classroom: 1. Completed a bachelor's degree. 2. Demonstrate subject matter competence: A. completion of an approved multiple or single subject matter program; OR, B. passing scores on the appro­ priate PRAXIS/SSAT Series examination. 3. Submit passing scores on Califor­ nia Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). 4. Minimum 3.0 GPA 5. Certificate of Clearance (FBI/DOJ Fingerprinting) 6. Verification of prior experiences working with children within past five years. 7. Currently have a full-time teach­ ing position with school district contracted with Biola University (documentation required). Association of Christian Schools International The Biola University Classroom Instruction MA concentration meets the requirements for the Association of Christian Schools International (ACS!) Certificate (Identical to the California Preliminary Credential pro­ gram, except that BBST 465 Integra­ tion Seminar: Christian Philosophy of Education or ASED 501 Philosophy and Values in Schools and Society must also be completed). Application information may be obtained in the Department of Education office. ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS All M.A. applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accred­ ited institution and must have a 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) grade point average. Those not meeting the G.PA require­ ment, if accepted, will be placed on special student status. Applications must be submitted through the Grad­ uate Admissions Office. TRANSFER OF CREDITS/UNITS Students transferring from an accredited graduate program may transfer a maximum of six (6) unit hour when the courses transferred are equivalent and have direct applicability to the students ' program design. Only courses with a grade of "B" (3.0) or higher will be considered for transfer toward the M.A. degree. Units being considered for transfer must have been taken no more than five years previous

studies that provides a distinctive foundation for professional performance in school education (15 graduate units). 2. Aconcentration of professional studies (minimum=l8 graduate units). Options include: a. A planned course of study related to requirements established by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, b. ABiola University concentra­ tion program, or c. An approved personalized concentration program. 3. One of two capstone experiences (I graduate unit of 599). a. A I-unit research project that integrates advanced educa­ tional thought with the prac­ tice of school education, or b. A I-unit instructional develop­ ment project or thesis that serves to integrate advanced educational thought with the practice of school education. 4. Four professional development modules directly related to the use of technology in the class­ room (I graduate unit of 596). 5. Astudent must have at least a cum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) to graduate. A minimum of 35 units of gradu­ ate coursework is required for the Master of Arts in Education degree. Concentration options may require a greater number of units. A minimum of 24 graduate units must be completed in the Master of Arts in Education program at Biola Univer­ sity. Students enrolled in the Research Institute for Christian Education (RI.C.E.) Program in Hong Kong are required to complete a minimum of 20 units on the Biola, La Mirada Campus. Specifically designed for individuals in the Professional Teacher Prepara­ tion Program at Biola University, which provides strong undergraduate instruc­ tion, including the university's general education sequence, approved subject matter program, course requirements for the California Teaching Credential (including CLAD certification, if elected) and Biola's 30-unit biblical studies program. Biola students also may complete the graduate course 505/506 Elementary/Secondary Cur­ riculum in conjunction with their teacher preparation program (may not be used for both undergraduate and graduate degrees). Individuals who have completed teacher preparation programs at other institutions may need additional coursework to complete required foundational studies prior to or dur­ ing the MA program.
