The course will emphasize the practical concern of how to develop an ongoing disciple- ship program in the local miniSU)'· OM 834 Advanced Church Growth (6) An in-depth look at cross-cu ltural issues facing churches in the U.S.A. Emphasis wi ll be placed on under- standi ng the mosaic of culture both within the typical Anglo churches and ethni c groups, as well as introducing the potential for church planting.

OM 828 Pastoral Care and Counseling Skills (6) Acourse designed to help the pastor sharpen sk ill s in pastoral care and counse ling. The student will learn and practice a model of helping which in corpo rates techniques and approaches of the behavioral sciences as well as biblical principles. The stu- dent will be exposed to live counsel- ing sessions, extens ive counseling practice and professionals in practice. (Additional work will be expected out- side of class hours during the course .) OM 829 The Pastor as a Crisis Counselor (6) Student will develop skills to help individuals confronting typical crises such as the birth of a chi ld, illn ess, the loss of a job, marital conflict, career adjustment, bereavement, pre-marital pregnancy, retirement and terminal disease. Attention given to prevention of stress in predictable developmental crises as well as recovery management fo llowing a crisis. A combination of clinical exposure, case swdy and stu- dent experience used in this seminar. OM 830 Administrative Leadership in the Local Church (6) A course designed to lead student through a biblical, organizational and

Hus- band-wife roles studi ed in the light of Scri pture and the movement toward egali tarian marriage . Attention given to the problems of divorce and remar- riage, single parent , blended family and other current issues. OM 815 Theological and Psychological Foundations for Parenting (6) Development of a th eologically consis- tent and psychologicall y health y understanding of the process of child rearing. Includ es a criti ca l review, both theologicall y and psychologi- cal ly, of a number of current approaches to parenting. Class mem- bers responsible to I) formulate a compr ehensive program of parent ed ucation for a local church, or 2) develop and conduct a parent educa- tion seminar or workshop . OM 817 Biblical Principles of Church Renewal (6) An examination of biblical principles for church life with the aim of spiritual and mission renewal. Course emphases 11111 center on the pastor' s style of lead- ership, involvement and training of lay leaders, congregational creativity, impacting the community, and preach- ing style and content, plus the pastor's and congregation's spiritual life.

Exposure to developmental life changes in persons and how change events in life - such as birth of a child, job change, death of parent - can affect marriage and family. (Required for all persons in Marriage and Family Ministries.) OM 824 The Pastor's Spiritual and sEmolional Heallh (6) A course designed to examined the hazards of the ministry as they pertain to the mental and spir itual health of the pastor. The pastor assisted in identifying the area of potential per- sonal weakness and given resources fo r dealing with these problems. Attention given to aspects of the min- iste r's role confli cts in his personal life , family life and ministry. Problem areas suc h as anger, depression , assertiveness, leadership and relation- ships will be explored. Techniques for self-modifying behavior to grow spirituallyand emotionallypresented. OM 825 Small Groups; An Expression of the Body of Christ (6) A course focusing on birth, care and developmelll of biblical small groups as theyfLmction in the life of the local church . Phil osophy of small group miniSlf1' explored with strategies for beginning groups and maintaining them in the local church. Participants will learn how to train layleaders, how small groups function effectively and will be able to set up a smal l group program in their ministry. OM 826 Dynamics of Church Growth (6) A course designed to understand sci- entific principles developed to date in the field of church growth, to cover relevant contemporary literawre on the subject and to acquire the basic skill s necessary for diagnosing the health of the local church and design- ing programs for the future growth.
