The aims of this emphasis are to: acquaint the student with the doctri- nal views of signifi cant movements , schools and individuals in church his- tory; show the trajectory of thought in the development of doctrin es as they are worked out histori cally; and give an appreciation fo r the struggles and labors of the great saints of God who have gone before us in es tablishi ng and defending orthodoxy. COURSES HT 505 Patristicand Medieval Theology (3) Histo1' of the church from the Apos- to li c Fathers to the eve of the Refor- mation with an emphasis on the devel- opment of doc trine. Discussion of key thinkers, such as Origen, Tertullian, Augustin e, Anselm , Aquinas and Sco- tus. Required of M.Div. students. HT 506 Reformation and Mode rn Theology (3) Histo11' of th e church from the Refor- mation to the present with an empha- sis on the key Continental and English Reformers, including Zwingli , Lu ther and Calvin. Di scussion of the counter- Reformation, Protes tant scholas ticism, th e Enlighte nment , and import ant th eological developments in the mod- ern era. Opportunity is given fo r stu- dents to study the poli ty and history of their own denomination. Required of M.Div. students.
