SPY 697-699 Practicum Eledive (1-3) For students desiring supmised clinical experiences beyond the requirements for their degree. These are used as elective practica. Prerequisite: approval of the director of clinical training. SPY 700 Cllnical Case Conference (1 I Small group supervision of ongoing psychological cases. Elective. SPY 701 College Teaching of Psychology (2) A seminar on teaching methods including the development of course objectives, outlines, lectures and eval- uations. Major emphasis is placed on the examination of the various teach- ing methods available to the teacher of psychology. Elective. SPY 702 Social Psychology: Interpersonal Processes (3) Focuses on the social psychology of interpersonal relationships with special emphasi s on intimate rela- tion s. Prerequisite: a survey course (undergraduate or graduate) in social psychology and permission of the instructor. Required of Psy.D., Ph.D. SPY 703 (qarizotion and Admiristration of Psy<halogicafServices (2) Aseminar dealing with administrative issues such as personnel , finances, commu- nity relations and supenision. Elective. SPY 704 Advanced Research Design (3) Acontinuation of PSY 60 I for smdents interested in pursuing dissertation research . The course includes advanced study of univariate and multivariate analysis of variance, regression analysis, canonical and disc1iminan1 analysis and factor analysis. Required, Ph.D. only. Prerequisite: SPY601. SPY 705 cr.nical Psychophormacology (3) A ge neral overview of current research on the use and effectiveness of psychotrop ic medication in the treatment of the psychoses, neuroses and other emotional disorders. Con- sultation and class presentations by area psychiatrists. Prerequisite: SPY 607 or equivalent. Either this course or SPY 607 or 670 is required. SPY 706 The Professional Practitioner (3) Intensive consideration of the impact of psychotherapeutic practice on the personal life and relationship of the clinician and the i111erac1ion between the professional and private li fe. Issues addressed include career satis- faction , professional decorum, inter- disciplinary relationships and therapist impairment and burnout, and steps involved in developing and mai111ain- ing a clinical practice. Elective.
SPY 663 Human Sexuality (3) An examination of the areas of human sexual functioning , belmior, relation- ships and feelings. Issues of sexuali ty are discussed within spiritual , psycho- logical, cultural and medical/ health perspectives with implications for clini- cal u·eaunent of sexual issues. Elective. SPY 670 Neuropsy<halogy (3) Consideration of behavioral and intel- lectual disorders of neurological origin. Clinical and experimental e\idence is considered as they relate to the major syndromes. Prerequisite: Physiological Psychology. Either this course or SPY 607 or 705 is required of Psy. D. , Ph.D. SPY 680 Prepradi<um (3) A condensed version of Prepracticum I & II for students with significant pre- vious graduate study in psyc hology. This course is designed to facilitate the development of empathic listen- ing, interpersonal skills and basic ther- apeutic techniques through group interaction and closely supervised on campus practicum experiences . Req uired of all first year students to be taken concurrently with STP 500 Psychotherapyand Religion. Fall. SPY 681 Prepracticum I (1 ) The first of a two cou rse sequence designed to facilitate the developme111 of empathic listening, interpersonal skill s and basic therapeutic tech- niques. This first course emphasizes a small , interactive group format for the developme111 of skills. ln terterm. SPY 682 Prepradicum II (2) The second of a two course sequence designed to facilitate the development of empathic listening, interpersonal skills and basic th erapeutic tech- niques. Durin g thi s course, direct observation and videotaping of the stude111's first clinical practicum in the University 's on-campus counseling center are utilized to provide a closely supervised introduction to the thera- peutic process. Spring. SPY 691-696 Pnxtkum I-VI (3) Supervised clinical ex periences including diagnostic and therapeutic activities with inpatient and outpatient clientele. Hospitals, private and pub- 1 ic clini cs, mental health organiza- tions, schools and college coun seling centers are utilized. Prerequisite: suc- cessful completion of SPY 680, or approval of the Professional Training Comminee. Required of all doctoral programs; Ph.D. and Psy. D.
SPY 643 Measurement and Assessment Ill: Projedives (Romha<h) (3) An introduction to the use of projec- tive techniques in personality assess- men t with speci al emphasis on the administration , scoring and interpre- tation of the Rorschach using Exner's comprehensive S)'Stem. Prerequisite: SPY 642. Required of Psy. D. SPY 644 Measurement and Assessment IV: Advanced Projedives (Spedal Issues) (2) Advanced inte rpr e ta tion of the Rorschach including special issues as fo rensic evaluations, child and adoles- cent personality assessment , assess- ment of th ought disorder. Other basic proj ec tive instruments such as the TAT, CAT and Sentence Comple- tion tests are also covered. Prerequi- si te: SPY 643. Elective. SPY 645 Measurement and Assess-men! V: Neuropsycholagical (3) This course provides an oveniew of the basic issues in neuropsychology, and examines the key cognitive-psychological ability areas that are assessed in a neu- ropsychological evaluation. Assessment from a flexible, hypothesis-testing and clinical perspective is emphasized. Spe- cial attention will be given to brief neu- ropsyc hological screen ing procedures which help to differentiate between organic and psychological disorders. Prerequisite SPY 607. Elective. Required of Psy. D. \\ith Family-Child emphasis. SPY 647 Advanced Assessment of the 0.1d (3) An advanced diagnostic course which focuses on the assessment and diagno- sis of exceptional children as we ll as legal and advocacy issues required by Public Law 94- 142. Specific diagnostic populations includ e mentall y retarded, learning disabled , emotion- ally disturbed and gifted ch ildren. Attention is also given 10 low in ci- dence handicaps such as vision impaired, hearing impaired, multiple handicapped, etc. Prerequisites: SPY 64 1, 680 and completion of/ or cur- rent enrollment in a child practicum. SPY 650 Family Psychology and Psychopathology (3) Emphasizes the construction of a con- ceptual framework for system change as a foundation for clinical inten'en- tion. Surveys major approaches 10 sys- tems-oriented famil y therapy and includes such related issues as the fami ly life cycle, object relations inte- grati on, fami ly pathology/ dysfunc- tion , family assessment, ethnicity and religious influences. Elective.
Intensive consideration of a specific technique utilized in modern clinical practice and requiring specialized training. A single major technique , for example the Halstead-Reitan I!!.
Adult Neuropsychological Bauery, cl ini cal hypnosis, or multi-genera- tional therapy will be the focus each time this course is offered. Elective. SPY 711 Seminar in Ethical and Professional Issues (3) Astudy and discussion of the eth ics of professional psychology with an empha- sis on the American Psychological Asso- ciation 's Code of Ethics, guidelines, and laws that govern the profession. Prepa- ration for the oral and written portions of the licensing exam in the state of Cal- ifornia is also given emphasis. The chal- lenge to integrate a professional, Christ- ian , and personal ethical code is dis-

Individual work, directed readi ng or special problems in psychology. Such work must be done with the approval and supmision of a facu lty professor of record. The student is expected to submit a detailed course proposal and a bibliograph y with an arranged course permission form available from the Registrar 's Office. SPY 718 Dodoral Research Seminar I (3) This is th e first of a two course sequence which Psy.D. non-<lissertation students can take as a partial fulfillment of their doctoral research competency. This course includes an in-0eptl1 study of research methods in clinical psychol- ogy and experience in critically miew- ing currelll clinical research.
