STP 710 Sin and Psychopathology (2) An advanced seminar exploring the concepts of sin and psychopathology. Includes a di scussion of the nature and essence of psychopathology and the relationship of personal , parental and societal responsibili ty in personal- ity deve lopment and functioning. (Same as SPY 605) STP 714 Conlr.ds in the Integration of Psychology and Theology (2) Aconsideration of tensions between psy- chology and theology in areas such as self-esteem, corporal pun ishment , sex roles, egalitarianism, and divorce. A syn- thesis model is used for thinking con- structivelyabout such tensions and iden- tifying srrengthsand weaknesses of tradi- tionallyconflicting11ewpoints. Prerequi- sites: STP 500, 721 or 722. STP 715 Contemporary Psychoanalysis and Relgion (3) The hi storyof the concept of u·ansfcr- ence is traced, particularly as pertains to controversies in contemporary psy- choanal ysis ove r hi storical truth vs . narrative truth , and reali ty vs.-illusion, with special attention lo the formation and use of God as a foreground and background object in light of modern infant observational research. STP 720 Psychotherapy with Religiously Commilled Patients (3) This course is a chance to share prac- ti cal ways of addressing clinical themes, as we ll as broader conce ptual iss ues like developing a personally meaning- ful , on-going tl1eology of therapy. Certain themes if handl ed one way allow tl1 erapy with religiously commit- ted patients lo take on more depth ; if handl ed in other ways th e work assumes a more superficial quality and meets with a kind of therapeutic stale- mate, even when therapist and patient are both persons of faith. STH 522 Theology 11: Theological and Psychological Modes (3) The second course in foundations for the integration of psychology and the- ology attempts LO interface biblical themes with the idea of integra tion. Special emph asis is placed on the rela- ti onsh ip between nature and grace, fa ith and learning and th eology and psychology as reflected in th e Old and New Tes taments. Prerequ isite: STH 52 1. SLB 706 Clinical Biofeedback (3) This course is an introduction to con- cepts and techniques of bi ofeedback as appli ed to stress management , anxi- ety disorders , psychosomatic sym p- LOms, and oth er psychological prob- lems. Formal registration fo r credit is usuall y in th e sp rin g semester, but actual learning expe ri ences begin in the fall semes ter to allow ample Lime fo r mastering th e technical equip- me nt necessary for use with cl ients. Studen ts receive IO hours of personal biofeedback. Course size is limi ted and requires the advance permission of the instructor. SLB 707 Cognitive Behavior Therapy (3) Thi s co urse will presen t a cogniti ve behavioral model of treatment for depression , anxiety, and the personal dis- orders. The theo1ies of Aaron T. Beck, Donald Meichenbaum and Chr ist ine Padesky 11111 be considered. Students will learn how to apply this approach wi th indi11duals and 111th couples. SLB 709 Therapeutic Approaches lo Sexual Dysfunction (3) This course focuses excl usively on clini- cal approaches to assessment and tl1era- peutic intervention in relation to sexual dys fun cti on within the marital dyad. Prerequ isites: SLB 67 1, SPY 607 ,663 and pem1ission of instructor. Elective. SLB 710 Existential Psychotherapy (3) Study and prac ti ce of the therapeutic relationship and the process of ther- apy fr om a growth or actualization perspective, including the approaches of se lected theorists such as Roge rs, Gendlin , and selec ted ex istential ther- apists. Integration of Psychology and Theology Rosemead's cu rriculum is distin- gui shed bya series of seminars designed to inves tigate the mutual relationships between theological and psychological concepts and data. These seminarscon- stitute an esse ntial part of Rosemead train ing and offer students an opportu- nity to become involved in a creati ve app li ca ti on of shared insights fr om tl1ese related discipl in es. Each student must take STP 500 and STP 721 or 722 and fi ve additional integration semi- nars. Completion of STP 72 I or 722 isa prerequisite for all other integration seminars. STP 500 Psychotherapy and Religion (1) An imroduction to the conuibutions a biblical understanding of human nature can make to the psychological practi- tioner's understanding of the therapeu- tic process.
