STP 722 Systems of lntegratian (3) A critical evaluati on of the works of specific theologians and psychologists who have auempted to integrate the disciplines of psychology and theology. Attent ion is given to the approaches of such theorists as Browning, Crabb, Narramore , Rizutto and Tournier. Prerequisites: STH 521, 522 and 603. Required of Ph.D., Psy.D. STP 730 Missions and Mental Health (2) Astudy of the comributions psycholo- gis ts can make to the missionary enter- prise. Special consideration is given to the selection , preparation and eval- uati on of mi ssionary cand idat es. Uniqu e cross-cultur al adj ustme nt issues facing missionary families are also disrnssed. Prerequisites: STP 500, i2 1 or 722. Elective. STP 731 Theological Contributions to the Practice of Therapy (2) A consideration of scriptural passages and .theological doctrines relating LO a ,ariety of clinical problems and issues. Includes a biblical discussion of topics such as identity, self esteem, guilt , anger, depression , anxiety, and asseni,eness. Prerequisites: STP 500, 72 1 or 722. Elective.

STP 741 Guilt, Consdence and So<ia6zation (2) Adiscussion of guil t and conscience, including both biblical and psychological thernies on the origins of guilt and con- science and the expressions of these theo- 1ies in therapy. Prerequisite: STP 500, 72 1 or 722; commencement of individual didactic and STH 603 and 604. Elective. STP 742 Anger, Aggression and Hostihty (2) A consideration of anger and related emotions and behaviors, including the catharsis hypotheses and aggression in fantasy. Prerequisite: STP 500, 721 or 722. Elective. STP 744 Integration and Therapy (2) The focus of this seminar is on "expl icit integration" in psychother- apy. The distinctives of the Chris ti an therapist and his therapeutic concep- tualizations and intervention are examined. (Course may be repeated with different emphasis.) Prerequi- site: STP 500, 72 1 or 722. Elective. STP 745 Maturity: Psychological and Theological Perspe<lives (2) Various approaches LO the concept of maturity are reviewed, including the psychological, biblical and devotional. A major focus is placed on the similari- ties and differences between biblical

and psychological maturity as seen by such integration theorists as Caner, Clines, Grounds and Oakland. Prereq- uisite: STP 500, 72 1 or 722. Elective. STP 746 Selected Topics and Issues in Integration (2) Occasional seminars are offered under this course designation with focus on some contemporary integra- tion issue , controversy or specia l research interest. Prerequisite: STP 500, 721 or 722. Elective. STP 748 Christian Community (2) Astudy of the potential impact of the church as a socia l system upon the growth and matu,iry of its members. Pre- requisite: STP 500, 721 or 722; STH 604 and pennission of inst111c1or. Elective. STP 749 Values in Psycho~y (2) Aconsidera ti on ·of the role of l'alues in the psychotherapy process. Includes discussion of the presence and impact of the implicit and expli cit values of both therapist and client. Prerequi- site: STP 500, 72 1 or 722. Elective. STP 750 Perspectives on Human Nature (2) Acriti cal examination of various theo- logical and psychological anthropolo- gies. Each student is expected to con- duct an in-depth review of one theo-

retical perspective. Prerequisite: STP 500, 72 1 or 722. Elective. STP 760 Independent Study (1-3) Individual study, direc ted readi ng or special problems in integration. Such study must be done with the approval and supervision of a faculty professor of record. The student is expected to sub- mit a detailed course proposal and a bib- liography on a learning comract form avai lable from the registrar 's office. Required courses may not be taken through independent study.
