HIGH SCHOOL RECORD An appli cant for regular standing must be a graduate of a recogn ized hi gh school with a scholas ti c reco rd (including SAT or ACT scores) whi ch indicates ability to pursue higher education successfully. The applicant must have 16 acceptable high school units (one unit equals one year in a course) , 12 of which should be spread over the academic areas of English (3), social studies (2) , mathemati cs (2), science (including a laboratOI)' science) (! ), foreign language (minimum of 2; recommend 4) and related areas. Prospective sLUdents in terested in the nursing program must take chemisl!)' and algebra in high school. Appli cants are urged to have at least two years in one for- eign language in high school. The applicant with fou r years of the same language in high school will not have to take any fo reign language un less majoring in Bible, wh ich requires Greek. Those wi th no foreign language in high school or wishing to begin a new language in college to meet the gen- eral education requirement, must take 12 units (3 semesters) of fo reign language for most majors. Catalog in formation regarding each major will indicate anyexcepti ons to this rul e. ADMISSION PROCEDURE The fo llowi ng must be fil ed in seeking admission: I. The personal application fo rm, incl uding an identifi- cat ion picture. Th e app lication for admission must be accompani ed bya $35 non-refundable appl ication fee. 2. An offici al hi gh school transcr ipt. The app li cant should request the high schoo l to send this directly to the director of admissions. 3. An official transcript sent directly to the director of admissions from each school the applicant has anended since high school. This includes schools auended for even pan of a semester. Those applying to the education or nursing pro- grams should have an additional copy of each school's tran- scrip t sent directly to the appropri ate department. 4. Two personal references: one from the appli cant 's pastor or someone on the pastoral staff who knows the appli- ca nt and one from th e school last allended or from an employe r if the app licant has been out of school for at least one year and has been working. 5. The scores of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of the Coll ege Entrance Examination Board or the ACT must be submiued. Information regarding testing dates may be sec ur ed from a hi gh sc hoo l co un se lor. App li cants are encouraged to take the SAT or the ACT no later than the .January testing date. The SAT is prefe rred. 6. Interview: All applicants are expec ted to participate in an interview with an admissions representat ive prior Lo a dec ision on their app lication. On-campus interviews are pre- ferred, when possible, but phone interviews are substituted when travel distance to Biola prohibi ts the campus ,~sit. 7. Appli ca tion deadline for fa ll isJune I and for sp ring isJanuary I. Applications may be submitted after deadlines (late fee of $45), and wi ll be considered and processed if space is available and time all ows.

NOTIFICATION Letters notifying applicants of their admi ssion status are mailed on a rolling basis. Freshmen appli cants with at least a 3.0 ("B") average th ro ugh grade 11 and accep tabl e tes t sco res may be notifi ed of acceptance prior Lo rece ip t of their seventh semes ter transcript. Appl icants who are gramed acceptance are required to validate their acceptance by the paymen t ofa non-refundable enrollment deposit of$ l00. Accompanying the lene r of acceptance wi ll be a health fo rm whi ch must be properly completed by both the appli- calll and the applicant 's physician. Amedical consent form is also required of single sLUde!lls under the age of 18 at the time of emrance . TRANSFER STUDENTS Transfer students must present the same appli ca tion forms and u-anscripts as those appli1 ng for freshman standing. The u-ansc1ipt from the last school attended must bear the statemelll of honorable dismissal. The Regisu-ar's Office has final author- i~' for the release of u-ansfer credits into Biola Cniversi ry. Transfer students 111th less than 27 semester uni ts of regular college work must quali fy for admission on the basis of both their high school and their college record. Aminimum grade average of "C" (2.00) is required on all work attempted at the college leve l. Those u·ansferringwith 27 semester units or more of college work will be considered on the basis of their college grades (high schoolgraduation u-anscript isstill required). Transfer students coming from institutions whi ch are not accredited nor recognized maybegiven the opportunity to 1·-al i- date credits through the College Level Examination Program or through consultation. Information on procedure available from the Admissions and Regisu-ar's Office. Pro1~sional credit for liberal arts courses from non-accredited institutions wi ll be gra!lled in accordance 111th the policies of state colleges or uni- versities of the state in which the institution is located from which credit is being u·ansferred . Pro11sional credit is consid- ered validated onlywhen the student performs al the "C" level or beuer fo ll owingenrollmem in Biola University. Transfer students wi ll not be required Lo take the SAT or the ACT if give n sophomore classification upon entrance (requires 27 semester unit of accepted credits). However, all transfer students entering th e nursing or education pro- grams must have the SAT or the ACT. Bi ola University will accept correspondence credit from regionallyaccredited or recogni zed schools. The max imum all owed is 15 semester un its of cred it. The maximum limit for recogn ized correspondence courses in Bible is six units. ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM Bi ola University, as a member of the Coll ege Entrance Examination Board , recogn izes the merits of the Advanced Placement Program and will grant credit for Advanced Place- ment courses taken in high sc hool. Cred it will be given when recommended by th e hi gh sc hool and when th e Adranced Placemelll examination isgrade 3 or beuer.
