Both the nature and the purpose of Talbot School of Theology are elabo- rated more specifically in the following paragraphs, and further expanded al various places th roughout the catalog as noted under each heading. Theologically Talbot School ofTheology is inter- denomi national by nature and is thor- oughly committed LO the proclamation of the great hi sLO ric doctrin es of the Christian church. It definitelyand posi- tively affi rms historic orthodoxy in the framework of an evangelical and pre- millennial theology wh ich is de rived from a grammati co-histori cal interpre- tation of the Bible, it earnes tly endeav- ors to make these great docu-inal uuths a vital reali ty in the spiritual life of this present generation. The seminal)' aims to u-ain students who bel ieve and prop- agate the great docuines of the fa ith as they are summarized in our Statement of Docuine and teaching position. Spiritually It is th e purpose of Talbot to develop in the lives of its sLUdents a spiritual life which is in harmonywith the grea t doc trin es taught, in order that th ey maygrowin the grace aswell as in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Chri st. ti c zeal and an adequate knowledge of the Scriptures. To accomplish these obj ec ti ves th e seminary conducts a chapel program and gives anention Lo its sLUdents' service opportunities. Academically Il is the purpose of the seminaiy Lo provide its srudents with the best in tl1eo- logical education in order that they may be equipped imelligently Lo preach and teach the Word of Cod and present it zealously to the world. In keeping with this goal, every depaitmem is geared LO emphasize the cleai· and accurate exposi- tion of the Sc1iptures. The biblical lai1- guages are uti lized Lo expose the inner meaning of the inspired text, Bible expo- sition, whether by syn tl1 esis or analysis, presents a connected and related inter- pre tation of the infal lible Book. System- atic theology moves toward a well orga- nized and soucnired airangememof bib- lical m1tl1. Histo1ical theology engages itself to acquaint the student with the progress of tl1e inerraiu Word among the household of faitl1th roughout tl1e Christ- iai1era. Missions, prac- tical theology, and Ch1istian education suive Lo petfect in the srudelll a skillful ai1d winsome presentation of tl1e outh , privately and publicly. Talbot stands for one fai th ,one integrated cuniculum, one ete rnal Word of Cod and its effective proclamation to a modern generation with its multiplicity of needs. To realize these broad objec tives, the semi- nary offe rs eight deg ree prog rams, each with its own disti nctive purpose. second lieutenants or ensigns in the chaplaincy branches of tl1e Army, Air Fo rce or Navy, with eight weeks of ac ti ve duty train ing optional during the summe r vacat ion. Chapel The purpose of chapel is to pro- vide opportuniti es for worship , instruction and exposure LO current issues, ministri es, mi ssions and gifted indi viduals. Chapel is an important pan of a studem's educa tional experi- ence, contributing signifi cantl y to individual spiritual formati on and the uni ty of the seminarycommuni ty. Chapel serv ices are conducted each Tuesday in Calvary Chapel audi- torium. Additional special chapels are held as ann oun ced. Special chapel series, such as th e Lyman Stewart Lec- tures and the Facul ty Series (Fall and Spring) , are held Tuesday th rough Thursday. Joint unive rsity-wide chapel services are he ld several Limes a yea r. Students are required to attend Tues- day chapel sen1ces if they have classes either immediately before or after the chapel hour. Parti cipation in th e chapel sen~ces of the university com- muityare highlyencouraged. Prayer Groups Voluntary small prayer groups are fo rmed each school year, and meet at a time determined bythe group . Each group is led by a faculty member. Student Christian Service The semi nary recognizes the neces- sity of acti ve service in Christian work whil e students ar e pursuing th eir courses of study. From the time of enro ll me nt slUd enls are asked Lo engage in some type of approved weekly miniSLI)'- The high population density of Southern Cali fornia creates extensive service opportuni ties ofmany types. Field Education Field education is that part of the student's academic program in whi ch there is active parti cipation in a super- vised experience within a church se t- ting. A full-time M.Div. sLUclenl must reg ister for field educa ti on eac h semester. (A pan-time M. Di v. studem must register fo r fi eld educati on once within eve1' 16 units completed.) For
