M.A. DEGREE CONCENTRATIONS

Possess current certification of training in in fant through adult cardiopulmonary resusci cation (CPR) which meets the stan­ dards for the American Heare Association (B or C level course) or rhe Americ.-an Red Cross. 10. The US Conscimcion require­ ment may he mer several ways: a) complete a minimum 2- uni c course chat covers the U.S. Constitution (H IST 105 U.S. History or POSC 205 Sur­ vey of American Government): b) transfer a course chat covers ll.S. Constitut ion: c) pass POSC 480 US Constitution (a one-unit course) and the accompanying exam by arrangement with the History Department: or d) provide ver­ ificat ion of passing scores from another university on a U.S. Conscicmion examination.

The personalized program requires: 15 units of the M.A . core, I8 units of an approved con­ centrat ion, rhe one-unit profes­ sional development modu le (.'i96). and a minimum one-unit Capstone Research Project (.598) or Thesis (599) or Comprehen­ sive Exam (595). TEACHING CREDENTIALS California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Requirements for various cre­ dent ials and certificates are included in the designated de_L,'fec mncencra­ tions. Specific requirement~ for the California Preliminary and Profes­ sional Clear credentials as well as other Scare specialization credentials and cercificarcs ma y be obtained from the Biola University Deparr­ mcnc of Educ-acion. T hese require­ ment~ are suhjecr to change. There­ fore, student~ should keep in contact with rhe Department of Educ-arion. Professional Clear Teaching Credential Requirements In order to qualify for a Pro­ fess ional Clear Teaching C reden­ tial. a srndcnc muse meet the fol­ lowing requirements: I. Pose-degree students muse he accepted into the Graduate School of Arcs and Sciences as a Grad uate Special student or as a l\lascer of Arts in Education srndcnc (sec Graduate School admiss ion requ irements). 2. A minimum 2. 75 GPA is required for non-degree seek­ ing graduate special srndcnts. (If simultaneousl y seeking an M.A. in Education, a .Hl GPA muse be maintained. ) 3. All professional education and compecencv courses muse he completed , with a g rade of "C '' or higher wirh the excep­ tion of Student Teaching 512/.'il3 and .'i14/515. which muse he completed with a grade of "13-'. or higher for the candidate co be recommended for a teaching credential. 4. Completion of an approved subject matter program or passing scores on the appropri­ ate Praxis/SSAT examinations prior co taking curriculum (ASED 505/S06). .'i. Instructional Leadership Prescribed Program The insrrucrional leadersh ip co nce ntration is for indi viduals who hold a reaching credential or who do nor require Ca li fornia credentialing (our-of-scare employment or private institu­ tion). Completion of remaining credential requirements is also possible in chis program. The prescribed prog ram req uires: l.'i uni rs of the M.A. core, 9 units of M.A. concentra­ tion, 9 uni cs of e lectives. rhc one­ u nic professional development module ( 596). and a minimum one-unit Capstone Research Pro­ ject (598) or Thesis (599) or Comprehensive Exam (595). CLAD Certification

The Department of Ed ucation and the Department of TESOL and Applied Linguistics have designed coursework which meet~ the requirements for the certificate in Cross-c ulcu ral Language and Ac.-ademic Development (CLAD). providing teachers with the knowl­ edge. skills. and attitudes needed co effectively tea ch and guide stll­ dents from cu lcurall y, linguiscit.·a ll y. and socio-economically diverse backgrounds.
