ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM Biola University, as a member of the College Entrance Examinat ion Boa rd, recognizes th e merits of the Advanced P lacement Program and will grant credit for Advanced Placement courses taken in high school. Cred it wi ll be given when recommended hy the high school and when the Advanced P lacement exam inat ion is grade 3 or hetter. Note: A maximum of32 1111its ca11 hr awarded/or al/forms of advanced credit (AP, CLEP IB , etc.) Military credit is 1111/imited. Tht maximum for CPL is 30 units. COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM Biola University subscribes to the Col lege Level Exami­ nation Program (CLEP) of the Co ll ege Entrance Examina­ tion Boa rd. Biola Universit y encourages transfer students from non-accredited schools to va lidate certain credits on the basis of the examinations provided by this program. High school students with superior records are encouraged to take the genera l examinations prior to attending Biola Un ive rsit y. Credit for CLEP genera l examinations wi ll be awarded on ly in those areas where a general education requirement has not been met hy previous co ll ege cou rsework and only up to the amount needed to complete the requirement. (For examp le, a minimum of only eight units in the sci­ ences and mathematics will be released if the students have no credits· in these areas.) Elective c redit will not be given for the general examinations of CLEP. Cred it will he awarded for CLEP subject examinations in areas not covered hy CLEP genera l examinations, pro­ vided no co ll ege credits have been attempted or earned in the same fie ld. Students should nor take English composi­ tion throu gh CLEP. Students are advised to take the CLEP test as early as pos­ sible in their coll ege program to recei ve the maximum va lue from them. Biola University reserves the ri gh t to determine the score at which credits will he released and the amount of credit awarded. T he Office of the Registrar has final authority for the release of CLEP credits into Biola University. CHALLENGING A COURSE You may be ab le to challenge a cou rse or requirement if the department has a chal lenge exam avai lable. Check with the specific department Hi see if a comprehensive cha ll enge exam is available. If your performance on a comprehensive examination demonstrates a good grasp of the course content an exemp­ tion from tak ing the course hut no units or credits will he all owed. However, in the case of the R.N.. L.V.N. and Bible sur­ vey courses, they may be granted credit units based on the successful completion of the cha ll enge examinations. all transfer students entering the nursing program must have the SAT I or the ACT. Transfer students coming from institutions which are not accredited nor recognized may he given the opportunity to validate credits through the College Level Exam inati on Program or through consultation. Information on this proce­ dure is avai lahle from the Admiss ions and Registrar 's offices. Provisiona l credit for liberal arts courses from non-accredited institutions will he granted in acco rdance with the policies of state col leges or universities of the state in which the institution is located. Provisional credit is considered vali­ dated only when the student performs at the "C" level or hetter fo ll owing enro llment in Biola University. For students with previous credit, a comb ined maximum of 32 units will be awarded for all forms of general educa­ tion advanced credit options including AP, CLEP and Internationa I Baccalaureate. A student wil l be permitted to transfer a maximum of 70 units of credit from a community co ll ege. Upper d ivis ion credit cannot be all owed for courses taken in a community col lege. Fina l autho rity for the acceptance of transfer cred­ its into Biola Universit y rests with the Office of the Regis­ trar. Current students caking courses at local community col leges whi le enrolled at Biola should request written prior approval of courses in order to assure that transfer credit will meet the needs of their curr iculum. No course below a "C" (2.0) will be transferred from another ins titution. C redit/No credit and Pass/Fail courses should not be taken. Vocational or technical courses wi ll not he accepted for uni­ versity credit. Admission counselors are prepared to give academic advisement to those attending, or planning to attend, community colleges with the intention of transfer­ ring into Bio la University. Biola University will accept co rrespondence credit from regionall y accredited or recognized schools. The maximum a ll owed is 15 semester units of cred it of which the maxi ­ mum limit for Bible is six units.

GENERAL EDUCATION OPTIONS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS

Transfer students ma y fulfill thei r general education requirements by completing Biola Un iversity's General Education Curriculum or, prior to enro lling at Biola, com­ p leting the lntersegme ntal General Education Transfer C urriculum (IGETC). The IGETC model for the Ca li fornia State University (CSU) system is accepted by Biola University with the fol­ lowing provisions: I. The current foreign language requi rement for al l hachelors degrees will be retained. 2. The minimum of 130 units for grad uation wi ll stay the same. 3. In addition to the IGETC, all prerequisites and sup­ port courses for existing majors must he met. 4. Transfer students foll owing the IGETC must com­ p lete it before they enroll at Biola Un iversity. Students who do not comp lete it hefore they enroll will follow the Biola Genera l Education curricul um.
